Flash for Mamiya 7...

I tried my ef-x20 on my Mamiya 7ii and while it does look great on the camera, and it will fire...it does not have any means to stay attached and could slide off at anytime unless you taped it on or something.

I can't find the web site that has this info , but the word is this camera wants no more than 6V from the flash unit. I use the Wein HSHSB unit to gaurantee this safe voltage.

Hey guys,

Sorry to revive an old post. This is my first post on the forum!

I have just purchased a Mamiya 7 with an 80mm lens. Seems great so far but a lot of the work i do has relied on a contax T2 point and shoot and so with the Mamiya i'd like to be able to use flash. With this in mind i have a tla 200 contax flash. Now my question basically is can the ttl be used at all or will it just fire at max power? Or is the manual the only way to go with it?

And if not is there a flash that is around that size that can be used on an "auto" or "ttl" setting with the mamiya 7?

Also the flash size is important as i only want a small compact one, i am not fussed about using bounce etc, as up until now direct flash has been fine for the kind of work i am producing. If anyone could let me know it would really help me out.

You need to find a flash that operates in "Auto" or "A" mode. Most film era flashes can do this so it's really easy to find a suitable flash for your Mamiya. One very good and relatively small size flash is the Nikon SB-22s (appr. 50$ used). SB-30 is a lot smaller but not very practical in use IMO.

Hey thanks for the reply..

I bought a Nikon sb-22 and a sunpak 114 because the sunpak was only around 5 pounds on ebay. So hopefully one of them will work. So with the nikon is it okay to just basically turn it on and shoot or do i still need to use it manually?

Sorry if i am just being a bit slow. I'm not particularly adept with the use of flash but it is something that is essential for the work i am producing currently.
