I currently have a Nikon SB-30 and Vivitar 285HV. The Nikon is a beautiful flash - the control, automation, and size are great - but the power and recycle time are often limitations. The 285 is not usable on my Leica if I want to shoot vertically. Way too big and heavy.

So what is out there that is closer in size to the Nikon, accurate in terms of auto modes, and faster/stronger? Thanks.

Thanks, but I'm definitely not willing to use a bracket. Going for compact. Metz used to make some powerful units that were the "lowrider" type, i.e. they were somewhat horizontal and sat very close to the body. I'm having a hard time finding specs on those. Any recommendations?

leica sf-20 - with its diffuser. i use one mostly off camera with a nikon shoe cord, handheld. nice results despite the dissing this little unit gets. just a thought.
