I use the Contax TLA200 and TLA140 on the R-D1 sometimes. Decent but nothing to shout about.

I find it a very userfriend one.

I bought it six years ago and still the first set of batteries in it...

I use a Minox flash FC 35, because it's little and powerfull.
But I don't use it "on" my R-D1 : I never use it on the hot shoe, I'm shooting in B speed, holding the flash unit in my left hand.
Here is the results :
