Hi,
My first post here, so first let me itroduce myself.
My name is Hans, living in the Netherlands close to Nijmegen.
i have a part time photography company mainly wedding and portrait photography.

A few months ago I bought a Fuji X100. I'm very happy with the results and the latest firmware UG did a great job.
Since I also want to use it suring Weddings I also bought a Fuji flash the EF-42. Reading the camera manual it states on page 33 that the flash speed is 1/2000. However when I power on the flash the speed does not change to 1/2000 but keeps the same as whitout the flash on. I use aperture preset. Speed on the A dail. Red eye reduction is switched off. In fact so the flash is now set up as fill in flash witch is fine in most cases but sometimes I would really have the speed to 1/2000 to reduce the effect of the ambient light. Till now I could not figure out how to set it up like this. Does anyone have experience how to set it up this way? As far as I get now is to set the exposure also to manual and 1/2000 but I get the impression that somehow it should be possible in A mode also.

Thanks in advance for reading and suggestions.

Best regards

Hans

As it has a leaf shutter, it will synchronize at any speed. I don't know about the X100 in particular, but in general, automatically restricting the time to the fastest safe time is only common on SLRs and other focal plane shutter cameras, where the shutter will obscure part of the image at any shorter speed.

IIRC all higher end compacts (with similar shutters) I've had allowed me to choose any time I wanted (the time will determine the relation between (fill) flash and ambient/background lighting) in aperture priority and manual modes, respectively continued to set any time as metered (with fill flash exposure bias applied) in A (and often as well in generic P) mode. They only automatically switched to some sane level (not necessarily the shortest time, all flash and no ambience is rarely desired, even less so by consumers) in their various consumer level program modes.

Thanks all for the replies.

With my Canon 5D I can set the sync speed to fixed 1/60 or 1/200 or or choose high speed sinc. So when the flash is powered up the shutter speed will be set to e.g. 1/200 in A Mode.

However with my X100 in A Mode the shutter-speed is decided by the ambient light and the flash will be always as fill in.
This confuses me because of the remark on page 33 of the user manual "The Flash will synchronize with the shutter at a speed of 1/2000 S."
