If I got a newer flash like the 20 or 24 would I have to get a cord to run it to the back of the camera? And are there cords where I can take the flash off the camera?

285 works well for me. Fits nice in the off-hand.
Y'know, that really looks as though you've smacked the lass with your flash!

Ya know.. speaking of flashes - for those of us that want to use them that is - I wonder who makes the smallest swivel & tilt head non-dedicated flash out there - I don't think there's anything smaller than the Vivitar 285 HV or the Sunpaks..
anyone?
Dave
Probably not the smallest, but an excellent flash nonetheless, http://cgi.ebay.com/SUNPAK-322-BOUN...14&_trkparms=72:1205|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318 as it has a power settings and a nice scale for different distances. It will lay over on either side and the flash head pulls forward and then swivels, so you can aim it side to side, or if laying down, up or down. It has a somewhat small guide number, but not that small considering its size. I have several. They are good as is, and for fill on a slave trigger. I have seen and have small more powerful flashes that bounce, but I can't think of any off hand that will swivel as well. It would be interesting to see.
Another poster asked about guide numbers. Yes, I understand them, but appreciate (accurate) flashes that have automatics if the situation permits. Too many times it doesn't as there isn't a uniform background and then a scale that tells me the correct setting for the distance involved is good, or knowing the guide number. It just irks me that so many these days give the guide number at ISO 100, rather than at ISO 25, which is what I cut my teeth on.
Another poster mentioned flash bulbs. Cool it! They are getting hard enough to get as it is.
Does anybody understand guide numbers? How about painting with flash. Guide numbers are essential, and a flash meter won't help that much. But for anybody that hasn't tried it, I suggest some experimentation. You can get interesting results.
