Flickr sees it our way!

With all those complaints, why do you folk stay with Flickr? :bang:

... an eight year pro history and three and a half thousand photos hosted there .... which are now very difficult to find and manage as the thing is slow ugly and infuriatingly dysfunctional

oh, and before you ask I pay to use Ipernity for my new stuff 🙂

"Is there any other alternative to that?"

Photobucket. A very simple site that does all I need it to do. Shooting film and printing in a darkroom, I don't need a lot of snazzy web features, just the ability to post occasional web stuff. I avoid anything having to do w/ yahoo or companies that it owns like flickr, but since photobucket is partially owned by FOX News Media I think, I can't say that is any better! But, it's free, simple, and I don't have to have a yahoo email account to use it. Websites that require me to sign in using email accounts are a non starter for me, and photopucket is not linked to anything else in this regard. It's simply my online photo place to post, and does not require signing in w/ other ID's from somewhere else.

I had to click the "Edit" option on my photostream to revert back to the older Flickr, which is only temporary and has to be done everytime.

I "leave " mine on edit and bookmark it.
That`s what I view when I check out my own page but I am confronted with the new mess whenever I want to view anyone else`s stuff..
One of the reasons I`m not always up to date on what my contacts are posting I`m afraid .

Photobucket. A very simple site that does all I need it to do.
The search on photobucket was until recently broken for several months.
It's good that it doesn't require an unsubtle tie-in to your email, mobile phone and social media accounts for the Big Brother of marketing to spam you with, but it's also very much a take-it-or-leave it gallery site. I don't think it will help drive traffic.

Any screenshot you guys can post for those of us who are not chosen randomly to see the new "old look" ??

With all those complaints, why do you folk stay with Flickr? :bang:

1. I have a lot of photos already in flickr
2. I have yet to see an alternative that works *a lot* better than flickr (if it's just marginally better, I can't be bothered to move all my pictures over)
3. The new look is annoying, but it still serves the purpose which I use flickr for: Store photos, not to socialize.

Here's a screenshot of what mine currently looks like.

And here's a link, if you want to check out the page with whatever version you might have: https://www.flickr.com/photos/bjornkeizers/14486807053/

This is changed from the previous layout, that had the Exif data in black to the right of the photo, as well as the comments. This puts the photo front and centre with arrows on either side and a small preview at the bottom to scroll through.

Honestly, I'm not even quite sure this is the 'latest' one - Flickr likes to force certain users to use 'new' or 'older' versions. They're basically BETA TESTING ON PAYING CUSTOMERS!

You can occasionally opt out, but I couldn't opt out of the latest forced change, which was the 'bad layout'. I'm still considering moving to another site, but there's not many that would appeal to me or accept paypal as payment (i.e. 500pix)

They are just imitating govt's who do tests on tax payers 🙂

That's very funny, you don't live in the US but we just went through a BETA test done by the government. Only we didn't get a choice to go to a different site. But back to Flickr, I do think they have made a slight improvement with this new 'face.'

I'm seeing the "new" page design too but on my other, secondary lesser-used account I am not.

It's a bit of an improvement, but it still doesn't solve the infinite scroll/loading problem, which to me at least is a much bigger problem than the looks of the "new" flickr.

This continues to be the biggest issue I have with the 2013+ Flickr. I hate the endless scroll!!! It takes forever to scroll all the way to the bottom, and then when I do eventually get there, I am surprised to find I am on Page 2. So then I click on Page 3 only to find out after awhile I am not in 3 at all but only halfway down the page between 1 and 2! So if I really want to see what comes after Page 2, I need to click on Page 4 and hope I'm now in the right place. And heaven forbid I scroll too fast - it'll load really slowly and then when all the pics load, it turns out it jumped ahead about forty photos. Maddening!

It seems that they're modifying the code again . Using a recent release of Firefox, suddenly the individual picture pages are out of focus, no comments, no EXIF data or access to other tools. On the other hand in an older version of Opera, or Google Chrome, which give the 'older-style' rendering, the focus is correct, comments and EXIF present etc on my workstation.

Oh, and I did clear the Firefox browser cache.

Never liked the flickr site. Collections, sets, galleries, ... It is all very confusing.
Slow loading, the old one as well as the newer one. And the site doesn' t work well on an ipad.

But I like to browse flickr through the flickstackr app.

I'm using Adobe Revel, and I'm happy with it, though uploads should be faster.

OK, I've sorted it out, at least as far as Firefox is concerned on my machine. What they've done breaks rendering on my older version of Firefox, but I've just upgraded to Firefox 30.0, and that seems to be OK.

[The drawback for me is that navigation within Firefox 30 itself is different and has to be re-learned. :-( . If one of them doesn't get you, the other will !]
