The meter in the Hexar AF is almost perfect, but there are some things you really need to know to get the most out of it. And the manual is not its strongest point.
In P and A mode, the metered area is a 15 degrees wide rectangle. When in M mode, the area is more like a 4 degree wide square. These metered areas are centered around the cross hair when at infinity. But if you point to something close, you have to be aware that the cross hair doesn't move -although the top and left framelines do-, and that you need to compensate for parallax.
