A week ago, I sold my ultron, which I had bought from an rff member in US 2 years ago, through a local (craiglist-like) ad site in Turkey. She told me that she has M9 and asked if the lens should work on M9 or not. As I have M6 and never had M8 or M9, I said it should work as it is the same mouth.

Today she called me and told me that she is not happy with the lens as it does not focus on M9! I said I used it with no problem on my M6. She wants to send the lens back and to get the money back. She says she can compensate the days passed and pay rent. I refused. I said I can not take the risk and I can not be sure if the lens has been harmed or not after me. Besides why after 1 week? It takes a minute to test if the focus is ok or not. I know there are focus shift problems on digital bodies but "can not focus at all" does not sound right to me. At least at narrow apertures it should focus ok. She says she has voigtlander 35mm f1.2 and uses it with no problem.

What do you think? She was reacting so negatively like I sold her something broken so that pissed me off and I refused to take the item back.

I suggest 2 things:
1) To rethink the handling of this - in my experience it is better to have more empathy for someone you deal with, particularly if you have a common hobby
2) Investigate what adapter is she using - even on film bodies and with 28mm lenses, you can have misfocus, if the adapter is not absolutely in spec - suggest using a Leica brand adapter
3) To be quite frank, I have tested 6 or 7 28mm lenses, and the 28/1.9 Ultron can only be rivalled by the Summicron, however for B&W photography at f 4.0 and smaller, I actually prefer the Ultron. If she does not want it, I'd just keep it, it is a gem.

Hi mfogiel,

Thanks for the reply. I always have an empathy but she did not want to solve it but just complained to me like I sold her a trash to her and tricked her. Her introduction was really bad which irritated me and she did not gave me a chance that this can be focus shift which can be corrected. She called my wife the other day and she told that she did not like the lens. She did not mention anything related to focusing. So I am suspicious now. How can you guarantee that she does not replace it with another 28mm or she did not damage it?

The ultron was m-mouth. I think the previous user attached the adaptor permanently. It is 6-bit coded too. The previous user was using it on M8 with no issues (as far as he told me).

I guess she used it for its purpose and wanted to return as she finished her job with it. So I refuse to take it back.

Preserve your reputation. Check out the lens before sending money back. Look at the mount screws to be sure they have not been messed with. Ask to have her adapter so you can check it out. I have put a micrometer on many and the thickness varies, not Leica or CV brands though. Those are right on. Or perhaps there was some debris between.

One time I did mount a lens and the focus was so far off I could see on scale it was screwed up, film Leica M6. I remounted and it was fine and camera and lens remain fine to this day.

I bought the Voigtländer Ultron 1.9 28mm years ago for my Leica M6 TTL and Minolta CLE. Today I am using it with my M9 with no problem at all (using the Elmarit 2.8 21mm setting in the menu for reducing vignetting).
