Can the usual minor adjustments and tweaks be done to a FODIS? Mine is not quite 100% accurate and a degree of two out on the verticles etc.

I'm assuming it's just turning something and checking; otherwise it'll go to the experts.

Secondly, all the references suggest the RF was made until 1929 or 1930 and so would have a code name (five letters) and not a part number. But mine has 18384 on the back, which suggests a later date but numbers seem to me to stop in the 17 XXX range and then start higher on. Or perhaps I've not enough old catalogues to check?

Regards, David

A range correction can be done with the little set-screw in the center of the distance-dial. but for corrections in the other plane I'm not sure how that is done.

focus on something at the closest working distance.
Without turning the dial loosen the set-screw.
Turn the dial until the scale matches the actual distance.
fasten the set-screw.
And Robert is your father's brother. 😉

I'm looking for a Leitz accessory RF for my Model E Leica myself.

Thanks: I'll try it tomorrow or whenever we get some bright sunlight.

Good luck with your search for a RF.

Before touching the screw in the middle, you should loosen up the ring that surrounds the screw. There are two holes in it. You can loosen this ring with pointed tweezers. When loose, you can adjust the images by turning the center screw with a screwdriver. Finally fasten the ring with the two holes wile holding the center screw firmly in the right position. In fact you'll need four hands.
Good luck,

Erik.

PS. Only older FODIS-rangefinders have serial numbers, 1925 and 1926 or so.
