For me photos have no value

I have become totally immune to criticism of my photos. This lack of not defending my own work is either due to extreme overconfidence or indifference, but whatever it might be, I won't blink if someone were to absolutely trash the photos I have made or make.

For me photos have no value; therefore, I see that to defend something that has no value is a waste of time. By value I mean, monetary as well as aesthetic value.

Unless its not family photos, I can repeat a shot in most cases and even if I can't it does not bother me. I always think, how would I react if the hard drive that holds my photos dies and interestingly, there is no sense of worry, I can delete all the photos I have taken so far and start afresh.

The question is then, why do I bother with photography when I have no interest in photos? The answer is that taking photos has become a habit and a habit that I enjoy, but photos themselves hold no interest for me whatsoever.

That is a good question, but no. I don't collect or buy gear, I have no interest in gear as well.

The only relationship that I have with photography is the simple act of taking photos, other than that, I have no connection to photography.

With all due respect, I think you're full of it.
 
If you've lost interest in photography why not pursue a hobby that holds your attention more? There's nothing wrong with moving away from a hobby (or a job for that matter)...
 
What I enjoy about photography:

1) The experience of shooting
2) Post-processing fun
3) The aesthetics of the displayed or printed images (based on what ***I*** like)
4) Admittedly, the gear.

If there ever comes a time when the above ceases to become enjoyable, then I will give up photography.
 
when the haters come out of the woodwork and mock me or my pics, i laugh at them!
pity the poor fools...

i pay attention to what 'real' people say about my pics but in the end, i do what i like and produce pics that i like.

as a bonus i have a small local following that like my pics...always makes me smile...

:rolleyes: If you have no use for the photographs afterwards, why put a memory card/film in the camera to begin with? Does the simple act of actuating the camera fulfill the need to photograph, or do you need to know that the image you've taken will be recorded somewhere?

I had actually posted a thread here abut shooting blank with film cameras, just to enjoy using them, and some people do this.

Personally I cannot shoot blank because I'd like a data log of my photographic activity in the form of pictures - if I can put it that way.

If i'm enjoying the shoot only, I might as well have a record of what I shot.

I went through a phase where I probably could have been happy with just firing the camera. I understand the feelings.

Now I'm back into a state where every frame I take I seek to make important to ME. I have a distinct reason for taking it and I am working in a headspace that is 'project' oriented. Arguably, the hardest part for me about photography is creating cohesive projects that focus on a theme (and sticking to that theme). I've no problem taking photographs. I do it all of the time. Thoughtfully and seriously grouping them into a body of work is the hard part.

Maybe you just enjoy framing the shot in the viewfinder and tripping the shutter...if that's what does it for you then go for it...
It might be cheaper to walk around with a 8x10 card with a 4x5 hole cut in it...frame your shot...enjoy your vision then move on to the next spot...
 
I take a different tack, I enjoy the picture and of course the gear but the bother of film was just too much for me. The instant gratification of digital along with the total control from click to print is my enjoyment. I do think that I enjoy the post processing more than the actual taking of the picture. I see something in my head and try to make the print agree with the vision. The picture when completed is everything.
 
Haha, why is it so hard to admit to just liking cameras.

Who gives a hoot about photos, this is a gear forum ;)

If he doesn't give a damn about what he spends time to capture/upload/edit/and even put on a gallery or social site,

WHY IS HE EVEN INTO PHOTOGRAPHY :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:
