For those who do a Presoak, what's your time?

The current developer I'm using recommends a 1 minute presoak and that's what I use with good results.

I'm just curious for anyone who has experimented with longer Presoaks, what happened- good or bad?

Thanks.

I've alway just done a quick pre soak. Fill the tank once and empty it, then developer goes right in.
Never have had a problem, or noticed a difference in doing a longer pre soak.

Careful you might wake a monster with this thread. 😀
I still pre-soak 1 minute or so. Have had great success over the years doing so.
My understanding is that a certain film manufacturer who has no business sense has changed their position on pre-soak methods. YMMV as does mine.

I do a pre-soak just in case. Upper limit is a minute, lower is about 30 seconds. One late night I considered leaving it to soak until morning (10-ish hours), but thought better of it. Within reason though, I imagine the soak time doesn't really matter a whole lot, because once film is wet, it's wet. That said, I haven't experimented yet 😉

Doesn't 120/220 film require a bit longer pre-wash due to the bluish-gray layer of "dye" or whatever it is that comes off? Or does it not matter?

I pour some room temperature water in the tank, then I let it sit, with the occasional agitation while I mix the developer and set everything up. I don't exactly keep track off how long that usually takes. Seems to do well in getting the anti-halation layer out of even the tmax films, and the film gets a temperature closer to room temperature rather than fridge temperature.
