For those who remember/commented/helped me in my other thread on choosing the best way to maximize my money, I ended up choosing to buy a Nikon F with a waistlevel finder. The total came to $120ish CAD (after shipping) from KEH. It arrived earlier this week and I shot a test roll with it, quite fun to shoot actually! The focusing is a bit different and I do prefer rangefinder focusing, but it's still a pleasure to use.

I bought the F so I could make use of my existing Nikon lenses. I used to shoot Nikon Digital a lot, so I have a small collection of lenses that I didn't want to see go to waste as my Leica iif and Fuji X100 quickly replaced the D7000.

Anyway, here are the first shots from the test roll

Nice shots. I recognize the pose in #2. I gotten pretty adept at it myself, since my wife doesn't like photos of herself either. Unless she is perfectly dressed and all made up. Then maybe.

Hope you enjoy the F.

Congratulation!

The F is my absolutely favourite in terms of SLRs. As a young guy of 23 this cam was my third eye and the photographs really 'jumped' into this cam without any efforts.

This spring I couldn't resist to buy a mint black one.....together with the 50mm 1,4 , the 28mm 2,8 and a 105mm 2,5.

BUT my old frames are much better:

The F was the beginning of the european tragedy in the camera business...

Keep her shooting......🙂

I never used a waist level finder on my F but I hope to someday.......I wouldn't part with my black F (with a matching Photonic finder) for anything......well within reason lol.

In my Time Life books (in silver) about photography always a F with the sexy looking small eye level finder was shown. Looked for me very sexy but the Photomic was better in terms of metering (also very good reading the meter on top in the small window)

The Nikon Pro service in Cologne could CLA the Photomic this year with new parts! Great!

Congrats! I love my black F. Recently sold my chrome F.. along with the standard prism, I have the waistlevel finder; great for on the street. Good luck and nice shots. I love the second

I have an F with the eye level unmetered prism. This used to be the "pros" setup back in the 60's. Very elemental, but pleasing and there is a vast array of lenses to use.

The greatest camera ever. I sold my chrome F a while back but kept my black version with the Ftn finder. Mine's one of the last ones, a so called Apollo version with later plastic tipped film advance and self timer.
Even though I can't focus it properly it will stay along with my very early 1971 F2 (F leatherette and slotted screws). Everything else can now be sold off as an F5 is on the way for film use.

Wow! I wasn't expecting so many replies! Thanks for the cool comments guys! I've always had a good opinion of the F. I was debating between the F and a Canon 7 about half a year ago. Went with the Canon 7 because I really wanted to try the rangefinder thing!

:] All this talk about a black F makes me want one. But they seem to cost so much more... I got this F body for $35 on keh (well +$50 for "international" shipping to canada, but still).

I find myself wanting to take my F out more and more, but it's just a bit too heavy for my tastes...
