Couldn't we have just deleted the pic?
I probably wouldn't have uploaded it in the initial thread, had it been my encounter. Describing the situation might have been enough. As I recall the OP was more concerned with the confrontation and wasn't aware of the possibility of the circus of transgender slams that followed in the thread.
Also, as I recall, the incident upset the OP to the point he didn't shoot for a while afterward. I think this to be due to inner questioning of what right or wrong in what he was doing. Nothing wrong with all that.
I think he made the wrong turn when he decided to include it to spite the subject's stated wishes. But that's a personal moral decision. You CAN do things that concern others legally in many situations....BUT, are they the right things to do to preserve THEIR preferences? Just something to think about.

Would it be rude to say "I agree with you... that is indeed what you probably would have done", Blake?

Again, that was a joke. What I said was that I was so upset I didn't shoot...for four or five blocks. Which is to say I was not very upset.

@mabel.
I saw the first thread start off quite jokingly, "is it a dude, is it a chick" etc, but it did get quite nasty and out of hand. Not your fault.
I thought it a good idea when you started this thread to try and talk this thing through, it is a pertinent question which will seemingly become more serious as photographers rights are being questioned, at all levels, on the street and in government.
An exchange of different thoughts and ideas could have been most interesting here in the "philosophy" forum, sadly, the jokers and trolls etc soon trashed the thread, making it, in my opinion, a disgrace to this community.
After reading it through again from the beginning, In your boots I think I would delete the whole thread.

The only ‘mistake’ you made was that you didn’t keep firing under pressure. That’s where all the good pics were hiding.
Trying to educate your fellow citizen on the legality of public photography is admirable and should be commended.
Don’t acquiesce your rights to a bully threatening violence, especially for the sake of ‘appeasement’. They are the ones trying to impose their sick and twisted opinions of what ‘rights’ you have.
We can quibble about your ‘tact’ and attitude during such a confrontation but in the end it is the ignorant citizen, who upon later reflection, will hopefully come to learn the facts and rights that their fellow citizens have in regards to their photographic pursuits.

The first thread DID NOT start off with any gender speculation. And when it moved on to that, it was added by posters other than the OP.
