I took my wife and daughter on a southbound train
to Florida. We had a sleeper car and, in the midst of
the afternoon languor, I quietly unpacked my handy
dandy Leica II and shot into the mirror:

The car was rocking and the light was dim (1/20 @ f/3.5)
but the result pleased me none the less.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words.

Payasam: Yes, that is a 5cm Elmar. 🙂

Chris: A promotion, yes. The last time
I posted here, I was told I no longer
qualified for newbie status. 🙂

Archivist: I scan from the negative. I
am a much better printer than scanner
-- the prints look better than the scans
but you'll have to take that on faith
unless you want to come by for a look.
(I'm on Broadway at 92nd Street.)

Steve, Frank, you really know how to make a guy feel welcome.

I don't shoot much 35mm but I will try to keep the Leica limber
and post a shot now and then. I figured I needed an appropriate
avatar for RFF, so I took a crop from this negative for the purpose.
As you can see, that's a 5cm Elmar on the camera. I just bought
a 5cm nickel Summar (uncoated) that wasn't scratched but has
internal haze. I'm mailing it today to Sherry Krauter for a proper
cleaning -- it will be fun to shoot it and compare the results to
the Elmar.

Sanders,

Wonderful family portrait and idea - great capture!

I really like to see more work with your Leica II it`s nice to see someone else is crazy enough to use old cameras to shoot everyday things like I do too

Happy Shooting!
