Found film 40's 50's ID help needed.

Good spot, Lano - I don't think there's a lot of room for argument there.

So it's Lourdes, post 1948, probably post 1955 (I'm not as up on US cars as Greyscale, but a quick Gurgle shows some strong similarities). Anyone know anything about uniforms? There are a great many about, I wonder whether the proximity to the border means that there are both French and Spanish army and/or police uniforms in the mix?

I found reference to a "Grand Royal Garage" in Tours, France. Is that anywhere near Lourdes?

Well, maybe near by US or Russian standards, as it is something like 400km off. France does not even span one single time zone though, and the two are half the country apart, Tours being quite as central as possible and Lourdes about the most distant place within France from there. For the French of the period that was pretty far off, a distance only a small minority could afford to travel for a holiday trip.

Wow this is really going well. Thanks everyone for the feed back I hope by the end of this thread we will all have a good Idea of might have been a small part of the lives of this family. I have around a 130 images total , so many more will be posted . The husband was in the military .

How did you come up with Texas?

Tom,

The fellow with the hard hat could be an oil field worker(?) and the light and house architecture looks like they're from a warm climate in the earlier photos. Perhaps Louisiana, too? Just a feeling more than anything definite.

Hi Tom

I think I've managed to identify the location of one of these photos. It's this one - http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=94336&d=1359644510

Having "walked" around Lourdes a bit using Google street view, I think this is Avenue Monseigneur Schoepfer, looking roughly south. Most of the buildings in your photo have been replaced by more modern ones but the big rock in the background is still there (on Place Merlasse), as is the photographer's vantage point (Rue Sainte-Marie). The Grand Garage Royal looks like it's now a mulitstorey car park!

Have a virtual wander and see what you think.

Cheers

Charlie , the reason I asked was there is a Texas connection as you will see later so please stay tuned .

These old rolls are fun, I've done many of my fathers from the 30s-40s. I'm putting these up for your ID of styles at about this time. This is my aunt and this is probably 1940, as my uncle was killed shortly after that in WWII:

She is filing her nails and enjoying herself, people had fun back then too.

I was actually surprised by these photos. My father just sent the negatives to the drugstore and I think the tones are good.

I think these could be as someone said that these are the 50s. If they are they are very early. This is my Mother-in-law (D) in about 1952:

People didn't look like bums back then, or maybe I'm wrong. Also, it looks like a 49 ford in the back of one of your photos.

The "troops" in this picture may be members of the Military Corps of the Order of Malta, who make an annual pilgrimage to Lourdes every May
