You know the funny thing is that I told my girlfriend who's a preschool teacher and a regular customer of the craft shop "Hey, Flax has their annual pen faire. Wanna go this weekend?" And she thought I meant Olympus Pen and there will be bunch of camera geeks there.

That's the time you realize you talk about camera and photography way too much in front of your girlfriend.

Got my first fountain pen: Pelikan M405 with F nib. :D

Next target is Lamy 2000 with EF nib, but want to try a vintage pen with B, flex nib bad.

All this talk about the Pilot Vanishing point,,, I succumbed and got myself one. Just great ! Finally carrying a fountain pen at work is feasible again. Thanks for the GAS attack.......

Ciao

Just bought a Parket Sonnet Black Matt FP at Fountainpenhospital pen expo 2 weeks ago, it is my 4th FP, it is fairly smooth with a steel nib. let's see how long will it last, or get lost-:)

Doh! Nice to see the fountain pens are popular over here. And it's indeed nice to meet some old friend from FPN too!

I am a sort of collector/accumulator myself and I have over 200 FPs. Mainly I focus on Pelikan, Parker, Sheaffer's and Lamy. I wrote some "essay" on FP. I like to photograph them too: my FP set on Flickr is my most viewed set over there.

Well, now: I think we should start a dedicated W/NW thread...

At present I use a very battered Sheaffer with the laque worn off in places to give that great brassed look! At University I had a Sheaffer snorkel pen that was ideal for detailed geological section work. Alas it got dropped from a great height and impaled itself in a wooden floor - dreadful damage to the nib and a write off. Visiting an antiques fair many many years later I spied another and as it was Christmas time had it bought for me as a present. It resides with the other on my desk-top (wood not computer).

Since I started with Pelikan M405 & F nib, my GF gave me a Lamy 2000 with EF nib as early Christmas present, and also I got an orange M320 with B nib as well. Now the M405 is been fitted with BB nib. Next target is a Nakaya, but I'm sure this one takes some time to accomplish. I'm now playing with variety of inks and papers to find the best match for each pen. :)

I have habitually written with fountain pens since school days 30 odd years ago.

Currently my favourite is the Lamy 2000, which I think is the Leica M3 of fountain pens: a classic design from the 50's; beautifully made; supremely functional in what it is designed to do; and idiosyncratic in only taking bottled ink, no cartridges.

I do admit to using a Lamy 2000 four-colour ballpoint though at times. Equally well designed and made.

I love fountainpens and ther is always a different favourite. Parker 51, Lamy 2000, sailor 1911, cheap pilot and the chepaest but best is a preppy. My favourite is a tiny Waterman from the 20's and it comes with a flexible nib...
I also like calligraphy and dip pens with different nibs, sometimes with antique nibs.

al1966,
Just remember the old saying: "Not all smart persons are lefties but, all lefties are smart." I even have a left handed wood rule and it drives other nuts when they go to use it. I hold my writing instruments in the same manner as righties so never had to deal with wet isk issues. Learning to write this was was a result of using a dip pen in school as a kid.
