framelines on the M-9

What are the framelines on a Leica M-9? Is the M-E different?

Same for those two cameras, with the common arrangement of focal length framelines: 28/90, 50/75, and 35/135. Same selection for the M8 as well, except the last pair is 24/35 instead.

Actually this arrangement is fixed since the M3, with frame lines being added to arrive at the present-day set with the M4.2. (and lines being dropped for different viewfinder magnifications and different crop) If this weren't standardized, lenses made for one body would bring up the wrong framelines on another, as Zeiss found out with their deviating standard for 24 mm.

The M9 and M-E provide the same framelines and viewfinder magnification, 28/90, 50/75, and 35/135 in a .68x magnification view.

Why is the magnification slightly lower than the standard .72?

Why is the magnification slightly lower than the standard .72?

I believe it has something to do with the different optics in the viewfinder due to the slightly thicker body of the digital Ms.
