Yes you are right. We stayed off the main highways for the most part and took the back roads. We did see a lot of pastoral settings: farms, sheep, horses, meadows, and more. So beautiful and peaceful.Lyon is a beautiful town. Each time I was there I have enjoyed it 👍.
As for travelling in France: If you go by car, check out the "petites routes" RN and RD instead of the "autoroutes". You will see a lot more of this beautiful country.
It's also a pleasure to sleep at private B&Bs in small villages instead of hotels: closer to French people and their life.
I must admit that I love them because they are always a great opportunity to put a bit distance between you and the following car (which is almost always getting too close to you 🙄 )... 😎😁👍One thing I had a bit of trouble with is the rotaries or round-a-bouts. Can make you a little car sick as you encounter them often.
The interior on the first cathedral is incredibly ornate, and I love how you captured it. I’ve only passed through Lyon so I missed that — will have to return sometime. We continued our travels and spent a wonderful day and evening in Lyon and Old Lyon. Beautiful city with wonderful churches and basilicas, and old historic buildings.
Some key sites:
- Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière
- Lyon Cathedral
- Fontaine des Jacobins
- Place Bellecour
