Ok, I got the shutter working but it is only at one speed. The B setting won't stay open when I have the shutter lever pressed down. Any Ideas?
prontor svsIf the shutter was not working at all when you started, and now only B isn't working, I would say you've done well. How often will you even use B?
What is the shutter on this camera? In my limited experience, the Compurs (especially Synchro-Compurs) are more complicated (and thus harder to fix) than Prontors.
I hope so, I have another shutter with the same problemSo, a good shutter. Others may have specific advice on how to fix this issue. I assume you saw this -- general instructions: Camera Collecting and Restoration
Chances are, the tip of some metal lever got bent slightly during disassembly, and it was a critical part for the correct operation of "B". But not to worry, this is exactly how the factory calibrated the things in the first place - by bending. But in order to figure out exactly what needs adjusting, you may need to stare at the workings of the shutter for awhile. Sometimes I've had to step away from the things for several days before figuring it out, but when I did, it was pretty clear there was only one specific area which needed adjusting, and a 0.5 mm adjustment is easily the difference between correct operation and flakiness. But be very careful when working with any metal pins which engage with the speed plate, because those can sometimes break off, and the fix can be a royal pain.Just an update, i cleaned the shutter again, the only speed that isn’t working is the bulb speed. The shutter won’t stay open when button is pressed down
I'm not sure where I should be looking -- which is the shutter release lever (where on the "clock face," as it were)? With a Prontor type shutter the bulb lever tab sits in a groove on the speed cam that is closest the shutter release lever in the below image.
When in B mode the lever is sitting in the larger opening, so the lever can travel upwards ... so I am guessing that this is not moving properly
