For 13,000 USD they didn't even take the trouble to dust the glass a little

He is been trying to sell this piece for 2 years now :bang:
If it was clean he had a shot but not like this:
I say it's worth half of that and it has nothing to do with the greenback

Maybe they think dust is the same thing as patina.

If he's well aware of what it's really worth, then perhaps he's just hoping some novice collector or country bumpkin who just fell off the turnip truck will come along and buy it at the price he's asking.
His pricing is right up there with Arsenal and the Camera$ fellow from California.

But this Thread started right, here is the conversion rates today on MSN Money:
1 Euro cost $1.42 US
1 UK Pound cost 2.04
BUT the greenback is back to 115 yen after being down to 112

I've always held the theory that it's an Honest Businessman's way of cleaning their wallet, if you know what I'm sayingoftheherd said:One always wants to believe that. But as somebody mentioned above, arsenal and camera$ price high, and seem to sell. How can you figure that?

After spending the better part of this year bartering for my grocery shopping every Saturday, my hypothesis on Arsenal's pricing is based on the bazaar model. According to this model, Arsenal offers items for inflated prices in order to get people interested in the items itself, and then to negotiate more realistic prices on a one-by-one basis. That way the final sales price depends on the knowledge of the buyer - if someone is ready to pay the inflated price, let him do it, and if he is knowledgeable enough to suggest a more realistic price, Arsenal can always sell the item for the realistic price as well.oftheherd said:But as somebody mentioned above, arsenal and camera$ price high, and seem to sell. That's because the yen is free falling even faster
I was once interested in a very rare item from Arsenal, a Red Flag Chinese M4 copy with lenses. I've always wanted one, and I feel with the rise of China as a monied collector's country, the Red Flag would one day be worth a small fortune.
I once missed a chance at a camera show to buy one with all three lenses for $4500 because I didn't have the funds at the time.
I then noticed that Arsenal had one on eBay for quite some time for about $17000, which is absurd. Past known sales prices were anywhere from around $6000 to a high of about $9000.
I made them several substantial offers near the top end, and they wouldn't budge an inch.
We never came to terms, but they seem to be pretty serious about their prices. I guess they sell enough at their outlandish prices to desperate or overly well-heeled collectors to justify their prices.
I've always wondered how they aquired their rare stuff, they seem to have enough of it.
