From "another network" a comment ...

How does the general public distiquish film users from digital? If I am shooting one of my m/fs or a folder, now that gets comments, people will actually wait, but my 35mm slrs that's different. I try to plan my photos or at least time them so people won't have to pause, some, I know, won't. Maybe this will end this, but its too good it should continue.

This is an interesting question. The other day I was down in Bisbee, AZ playing photo tourist. I was carrying my Nikon F-100 and my wife was toting my Nikkormat EL (sorry, no RF at our AZ house - just in NY).

I went into a shop and the shopkeeper eyed the F-100 (I guess he saw the Nikon logo) and said: "That's a digital camera, isn't it?"

I explained no it wasn't and asked why he thought so. Seems that the body size (it had the battery pack attachment) made him think it was. "Size matters?" 🙄

Funny think is, I had left my Nikon D-100 in the car. When I got back there and looked at it - it's body is SMALLER than the F-100 w/battery pack!

Guess this doesn't really answer Rich's question - but it does say something about people's perceptions of what kind of camera you are totiing.

My 7-year old still can't believe that I use a camera that does not go "Click, PHHHFFT, give me the picture". On a trip to Ritz she announced to the store's contingent "My favorite camera is Polaroid." She'll put up with the 35mm's and then asks "Dad, can you get the Polaroid now?"

I have zero expectation that someone would pause for me to take a photo. The picture is my business, not theirs, and common courtesy doesn't even come into play.

In fact, my biggest problem, when taking travel photos is when I've timed a shot so that a passerby will walk into the frame to give the image a human dimension, and the person politely stops and waits for me to take my photograph! Arghh.

And I thought I was the only one with that problem. ....

My girls lead sheltered lives. They don't know there are any cartoons on TV on Saturday mornings, and they don't know about Polaroids.

Bad News: No More Cartoons on Saturday Morning. One network Simulcasts Nickelodean on Saturday, but that's it.

I had a friend who told his girls that the "Musical truck going down the road with the kids chasing it is just playing its radio loud". I sent a dollar in letter explaning Ice Cream Trucks to them.

I have some Sonar OneSteps in the basement...Can convert to 600 speed...
