To me , as a completely out of phase kid , magic pictures on the wall were fascinating .
I almost always shot reversal after that was it ASA 25 or something ?
I wonder if I have been missing the artificiality of Kodachrome , even Boots own [ Agfa or Fuji ? ], not to mention my favourite 1960s films .
It was all so simple - just send the film away , process paid and await the magic .
As I said in another thread , I upped the A290 [ ccd ] to Vivid and kicked the M8 up a notch .
Except for the Fuji X-Pro 1 ,with in camera conversion , which I have yet to attempt , I will stick with jpegs as I just don't like doing stuff on the i-mac very much .
I had not thought about this as I am always concerned that my glitches get in the way of personal choice .
It's only with a new acceptance of being otherwise , that I explore this .
Are there any cameras / settings which are close to that Kodachrome moment ?
Thanks

I came back from holidays in Croatia a few weeks ago, shooting with my fuji xe1 as well as a few rolls of agfa precisa in various film cameras. While I really like the jpg'so out of the xe1 they don't even remotely look like slide film. I just started enjoying digital photography a few months ago although I ve owned the xe1 for about 2 years now. What made me change my mind is accepting it as a different medium with its own advantages. If your aim is to emulate the film process or results, you won't have much fun with it. Just my two cents.

Nope, I miss it as well. You can still shoot slides you know. Send or drop them off and project them wall sized in your living room. Still get that immersion that you loose if you put it on a telly or a laptop screen. Go out, load an old camera with some Provia or Velvia and enjoy.

Hi,

I'll second that and add that you can still do B&W slides as well but have to go to Ilford's website for the info.

BTW, I wouldn't describe slides as anything like vivid...

I've tried, had a few plug-ins, Picasa 3, PSE formulas, and none of them really worked. Kodachrome, Anscochrome, and lesser Ektachrome were all favorites of mine. I tried to do it with this digital shot from last Friday:

But somehow it doesn't do it like this Anscochrome from 40 years ago:

Like NeeZee I shoot digital with an XE-1. Like you I don't like futzing with images on the computer. Every once and a while I'll get a very nice jpeg off the Fuji, and with minimal post processing think I've replicated Kodachrome. Then I'll go to the archives and pull out a Cibachrome printed from a Kodachrome transparency. That's followed by a heavy sigh and the realization that the magic of that pairing is forever gone for me.

You can still shoot slides, just buy Provia 100F which is arguably the best color slide film ever made, shoot your slides, send them to the lab and enjoy.

Also you can shoot B/W slides with most B/W films, and develop using either:
- dedicated labs like dr5
- reversal kit made by FOMA (foma reversal kit)
