Well, thank you all for your comments ! I finally made the move and got a Nex-5 with the 16mm f2.8. I'm waiting my M to Nex adapter.
So far, I really like the IQ. The high ISO performance is impressive. The articulated screen is a great feature for waist level shooting. I'll post a comparaison in a week or so !

"Take the plunge and get the M9"! That's a big $$$ commitment. I felt I did that already with the M8 (which at $5k was no chump change) and felt "burned" by the inherent color and mechanical issues with the camera (I have recently moved on from M8).
I'm hoping the NEX-5 will get some mileage out of my M glass in the meantime and see what comes out of Solms in the future.
I think what will be most exciting about using the NEX-5 is with the 50mm and longer lenses. Live view focusing a 8.5 cm Nikkor (and not using small RF framelines) should be a live bokeh inducing experience.
Anxiously awaiting all the packages that will arrive in the mail next week.

Hi, it depends on intended use.
Portrait is not so good for display on a big flat screen which is what most people use to look at a batch of pictures - many screen savers also cycle through the picture database. So if the main goal is to take an entire person, it might be better to have empty black space on both sides, but often we have to revise traditional thinking and think about the end usage.
Unless the intended use is print or a complex web page, I mostly refrain myself to use portrait now because it is often disappointing to see on the large display. I could sit closer to the display but only if I could view portrait and landscape pictures separately/segregated. The transition between landscape and portrait on screen is jarring.
Regarding the main topic of this thread there are a lot of pictures (original available) on this thread with the Contax G 28mm on NEX and the pictures are quite OK - no brick wall though.

Just commenting on the "SET" mentioned in Saxshotter's post: another photographer who does not realize that a 3 by 2 aspect camera can be turned to vertical orientation.
So weird when this happens with every picture of the 181 pics all taken in the same landscape mode, regardless of subject matter. Very weird cut offs of heads and bodies with miles of stuff shown on the left and right .... A bit of lack of common sense, of composition awareness, ... So weird ... this guy on Flickr ...

I think the OP should consider keeping the m4/3 body and acquiring a NEX second hand. He is clearly able. Using the lenses he has on FF, 1.5 and 2x crop bodies means he has very high quality options without the need for more lenses, if he is happy with the quality of the m4/3 system, which appears to be the case.
He can also sell the m4/3 and buy the NEX, get used to that and then acquire a m4/3 body!
The point is that the user matters most, then the lens, then the box? With the options available, he merely has additional choice and need not sacrifice any system because another has strong points?
