Frustrating GSN Problem

My beautiful GSN has worked perfectly since I bought it last summer. I got the battery adapter from Yashica_Guy and installed a new light seal kit. The lens, as you all know by now, is an absolute marvel. I have used it as a back up camera on several jobs where an RF camera might be the right tool. Occasionally the GSN print was the one the client liked best.

However, I just noticed the lights have virtually stopped working. So I bought a new battery. Worked fine for a few frames, than no lights. I know it defaults to 1/500th and I could of course use a hand held meter and get by, but I want the camera to work properly.

Everything else on the camera works properly. Every exposure is as it should be. Shutter seems working just fine, obviously.

Tonight I pulled out the battery, gently polished the contacts, reinserted it, and for 3 frames the lights came on, then zip.

Anyone have a clue?

Battery test button does nothing. As I understand it, when you press the button the film counter window lights up?
 
On the GSN the battery test lights up the film counter. It sounds like a weak battery, but I would not rule out dirty contacts. Try cleaning them again, and rotating the battery around. I have good luck using pencil erasers to clean contacts.

If the battery is good, and the contacts are good, it could be a short within the camera.

ago).

Did what you said and it seems to be working OK now. Lights on camera top plate work, but I still can't see any illumination in the film counter window when I press the button.

I simply cannot get over the quality of this lens, simply amazing.

I had similiar experiences before where the metering circuit works but the circuit for the battery test is broken somewhere along the line..

But seeing that the lights do not work now, it might be a small issue with the connections to the battery chamber. Try opening the bottom plate to take a look? You should be able to see if the wire are connected properly.
