Stephen sent me pm with OK for this years contest and opened gallery.

These are suggestions for rules
start day: april 1st
end day: may 15th
equipment: we have two options
FSU body and FSU lens
or
non FSU body with FSU lens

voting: also two options
write a comment "I like this photo" for photos you like
that will be first part and it will last until june 1st - then we count
comments and 10 best photos will go to finals.
or
we choose some judges and they will choose 10 best photos

i will make a polls for equipment and for voting system and you give one vote in equipment part and one vote in part about voting.
please make other suggestions if you have any.

FSU contest should definately consist of an FSU camera and lens, because that would give me a reason to CLA mine and use it more!

No, But seriously... make both of them required... it just seems right. I dont know. Im tired, and going to bed. make them both required.
 
You might want to make a decision to limit or not limit the number of entries for each person and, if limited, what that limit should be. My suggestion in that regard would be to limit entries to a total of 6 (while encouraging people to try to post one per week, but not insisting on it). I'd also suggest that people only post new photos taken because of the inspiration of the contest rather than trawl through their archives looking for favourite shots.

I'd limit the number of photo entries to 3 per person.
 
Definitely only FSU body and lens for me. I would like some regulation in the time frame of the photos ... maybe nothing older than mid March. This would encourage specific effort rather than archival examples as previously suggested! :)

I also think shots should be taken for the contest duing the contest period.

I am ambivalent about the body lens thing, but I think that to be fair it should be body and lens.

As for judging, to be historically correct, only members of the Central Committee are to be allowed to vote on matters that affect our heroic
workers efforts.
 
Im w/ Mike and Keith on the timeframe... a suggestion of submiting the equiv of 1 photo a week sounds good and encouraging as well.

me too (as if I could produce a "good" images a week...) If some one gets out and produces several good photos more power to 'em!

FSU camera and lens? Hello! It's an FSU contest, comrade! Let the Huns and the Samurai have their own contest.

"I like it" vote? I wanna see what we like. If we all like it has a chance to win, even if it isn't artsy or gritty.

I like this, nzeeman, thanks for your organizing work. Now, I only have to finish restoring my Fed2 to working condition...I didn't get to jump in on the first contest, so I hope to be part of it this time.

I'm a fan of the "populist" voting scheme, using counted comments. How will the finalist voting be conducted? Will we stick with 10 finalists, or will there be a final round?

i thought it was the shooter and the glass that made the pic and the box just holds the film.
i have a j12 coming but no fsu box so it looks like i and any others like me will be sol.

well, rules are made to show our imagination ... not to kill good will - when we were in Zeiss Ikon battle( last street photo contest on RFF ) Jorge said that we will shoot with 50mm lenses or with lenses close to that focal lenght ... this is the same : Contax & Kiev are same cameras ;)

My thinking is, since this IS an "online community," and the FSU Contest is held for fun, grins and bragging, that we would somehow try to be inclusive of as many members as possible rather than exclusive. I last year felt the contest was quite a celebration of FSU photographic history and technology and I personally believe there has been quite an increase in FSU fans in the last year. There are some who enjoy FSU bodies [w/CV glass for example], some FSU glass [with Leica, for example] and some enjoy both. Since I didn't recall us giving 2nd and 3rd place recognition last year, I just thought broadening our horizons to 3 categories, 3 winners, might make it fun for more folks.

Plenty of time to get yourself a Kiev Joe ... in fact I'm sure there's enough to go around for the others too! :)

I agree that it is the shooter that makes the deal but I also agree that this should be a celebration of the humble FSU lineage. :D

Hows about we have a photo comp just for mods and all the M8 owners can do the judging? :p
