the snow must go on
I would limit the entries-per-person to 1 single shot.
I know it is difficult to edit your own stuff. I will regret this comment of mine.
But the contest would be of a higher level, imo.
If it would begin earlier (sa, NOW), i could enter with the traveling fsu camera, Agent FED-002. Pleeeease

The best camera is one that still works!

I think that cheap and cheery Chinese dollar a roll film should be compulsory ... just to add to the challenge!

film in the camera is considered part of the 'loaded'...i will likely be using delta 100 or 400 as most of my current stock should be gone by april 1.
once the last of the old is gone then i will be staying with the delta family exclusively.
in all my cameras.

WOW I didn't know the Soviets even made film! So if I use that film in my Fed 2 + J3 = I win the fsu contest? Right.

gb,
Dunno about that, but When I posted that link, I just had to go look and see what else Alex has--I've got things from him before and when I saw the 13x18 glass plates, I looked to see if he had any of the FKD cameras.
Big mistake, he has two and I noticed the shipping to the US has come down since I last looked.
It is becoming harder and harder to resist these wonderful woodies! My reasons for not buying one are dwindling:
No film available for them so I'd have to adapt something. Nope, there is some.:bang:
Shipping is as much as the camera. Nope, it's just $50 for this one.:bang:
No shutters on these, just barrel lenses. Nope, this one has a shutter.:bang:
I really would need a darkroom for this camera. OK, that one still applies to me. Except I have been looking at a slightly bigger place to live...:bang:
Must Remain Strong...
So I have the strength to carry the thing when I do eventually succumb!
How do I say, "I surrender" in Russian and/or Ukrainian? I may as well start practicing now...

In the other thread, I mentioned choosing a winner by simply counting "I like it" comments to the photos,if there is a way to count unique posts.
Well, after some reflection, I realized two things:
1) I'm being a bit of a dumb a## about this because;
2) to comment on photos in the gallery one has to log in and so there is already a way in place to count "unique" comments.
Suddenly things seem rather simpler to me: If we can ask folks to just simply comment on the photos that they like,"I like this one." and not post other comments until after the voting time is done, the counting is basically done--maybe have somebody look through the comments and potentially discount other comments if there are any. And either just use that number or then put together a short list from the top ten and use the polling function here to select the ultimate winner for '07?

Strange, I missed this thread until now. Great idea. I just voted for "whole camera" and "I like it". May I now join the party? I'd love to use my newly acquired Zorki-4 for this.

Well-known
Here is my 2 cents, since there was a large bias against color film last year, divide this into color and black and white.

My suggestion would be to have 1 contest per month with specific theme and FSU body and lens

May contain traces of nut
Is an East German lens considered FSU for the purpose of this contest, or do I have to lay down my beloved Flektogon and go back to the Vega-12?

Great. Then I may be in. I already have a Kiev, but have a few Brianov Jupiter lenses in LTM mount that are begging to be used.nzeeman said:i see that we have members who dont have both FSU parts (body and lens) so i would like to open this contest for them also because it would be stupid that someone spend money and buy gear just to enter contest. i will just ask people who want to join contest to write beside the name of photo what equipment was used.
FF - FSU body and lens
FA - FSU body and any lens
AF - any body and FSU lens
Just write this before the name of your photo. we will simply make winners for three categories and everybody will be happy. we dont want people to be sad - we just want to have fun.

Finally at home...
Who said, it is just the shooter and the lens?
Well, guys, of course there is a difference if you shoot with a Leica M7 or an old FED-3, even if the same lens is attached: film handling of the camera, light meters or not, bright or tiny viewfinders, you name it...
Thus, I voted for FSU lens and FSU body.
I'm sorry for those members who just have a FSU lens.
But, hey, an FSU body will cost you, what?, 30 $?
Until recently, I just had German rangefinders (Agfa). If it still was like this, I could not be participating. Sorry for my frankness.
Make it a fair competition, please.
