So most FSU rangefinder users are pretty keen on getting under the bonnet of their cameras, with people doing CLAs and repair work as necessary. Also, there are lots of 'less-than-perfect' sources for the things, as many of the cameras arrive in a pretty tatty condition.

This got me thinking, perhaps a camera parts exchange would be a good idea? Several of us have spares from old cameras or are looking for very specific parts for their camera, so perhaps if people posted up here what they have to offer or what they are in need of then people can privately sort out a trade or donation of the necessary parts.

I have a Fed-3B in pretty grotty condition - but since it's sitting around collecting dust then I'd be happy to gut it of any useful parts people may be after.

Is this a good idea?

Happy new year everyone,
Chris

Good idea Chris. I don't have any parts bodies at present, but would really like to get a replacement rewind knob for my FED-2 (D6). Mine is held together with glue at this point due to a stripped out screw.

I've got a set of shutters that were supposed to be for a Fed-2 but they didn't fit mine as they were too wide. The lathes are 44mm wide and the cloth is 32mm. They've got the proper ribbons on them as well and are brand new.

I don't have any need for Fed parts right now but I could use a 55mm lens cap and/or sun shade for my Yashica GSN.

I picked up a fed 2 about 6 months ago which needed some curtain work. Turned out one of the rollers was broken - couldn't figure out how to fix it (or if its even possible). I've had it disassembled on my desk ever since as I couldn't bring myself to put a non-functional camera back together.

One of my hobbies involves a lot of activity at festivals during the summer but during the winter we hold "workshops" where/when we get together to do repairs etc. That way we have access to a lot of odd tools, experts and ideas. We also have one or two dealers setting up stalls to subsidise the cost of the premises hire. And there's always someone ready to stand up and give a talk on something or the other.

So why not one in the UK for us FED and Zorki users?

It needs to be somewhere central with a hall and car park near somewhere to eat and, perhaps, stay over night.

Any ideas, anyone?

Regards, David

Each camera, including digital ones. Survive in the future mostly due too spare parts from spare body's. I help a hand now and then in a workshop for digital camera repair. There is even a market for second hand 'refurbished' parts and lens units from china. For digital mostly.

I never trow away a FSU body or parts. Unless the parts are broken, worn or unusable. Sometimes Oleg has unused parts. I buy broken/defective cameras mostly, to fix them. Thats the main hobby, next to photography.
