I want to get a(nother) M39 than the Fed5B that I have (like the diopter adjustment but the rangefinder patch isn't good enough. It must be a very good shooter . I also use and like my Kiev IIa that I like the viewfinder and rangefinder clarity. What do you propose ? A Canon P would fit ?

I have used Fed 2 Kiev 4am and now the canon P.

Canon P will have less contrast than the FSU RFs BUT will have much bigger and brighter viewfinder. Even with the lower contrast, I have no problem focusing in dark situations. Ironically, Canon P has brighter viewfinder than Leica M4-2 I got but the contrast is lower again. Also, the 1x viewfinder magnification is great for 50mm and greater.

Do you mean viewfinder contrast ?

lots of good choices. the P is a good shooter. I'm happy with mine, but the VF isn't great for a 35mm lens. Newer LTM Bessas, or even an M-mount camera with LTM adapter(s) can also work well.

Canon P is pretty good for 35mm lens but you need to learn how to look wide. It's like eye rolling on the viewfinder. I was lucky enough having learnt the trick after using Nikon FM2 for a couple of years.

I'm not sure if I understand correctly but what I meant was FSU cameras have overall dark viewfinder image and rangefinder image BUT have very high contrast.

Canon P has a bright viewfinder (the whole window you see) but the contrast between the overlapping images are a bit lower than FSU. Leica M4-2 has slightly darker overall viewfinder but the contrast of the patch is higher.

I hope that makes more sense.
