could you do the majority of your photography with only 2 lenses...the 16 and the 56?
i play this little game with myself every so often...which 2 lenses (sometimes 3) could i live with? i'm wondering what folks think about this particular pairing?

Yes.
In 1986, I spent one week in Venice (ITALY), with 24, 50, 90 and 200 (for 35mm).
This time was the only when I registered all data (lens, f-stop, speed)
The stats was : 24mm 56%, 90mm 30%, 200mm 10%, 50mm 4%.

I have a scad of lenses and find myself continually using just one. The 18 on my XE3, the 28 on the Leica and a 20 on my Epson. I'll try others and keep coming back to the 28ish focal length. I'm tired of cleaning dust off the Leica so that one stays no matter what. The others get played with now and again but for the most part I could live with just one focal length.

the 18 is very nice on the xe3...great fit in the hand...the 27 runs neck in neck too.

been thinking of getting Fuji lenses again for the X-E1 and the plan is to stick with 2 lenses only.

thinking Samyang 12mm and XF 35mm 1.4 would be a good combo
XF 23mm and XF 50mm would be another one.

i'd go with the 23/50...
i just bought a domke 5xb to carry with the 3 fujicrons and xe3 as a small kit.

Since I don't own either lens, my answer would have to be "no".

Like Darthfeeble, I also own a lot of lenses. But my two lens outfit for the Fuji is the 23mm and 35mm (35mm and 50mm equivalents*). I have both f/1.4 and f/2 versions of these lenses and I love them all. If I need a third focal length, I go wide and choose the Fuji 14mm (21mm equivalent)...sometimes the 18mm (28mm equivalent) instead. It's a rare thing for me to use a lens longer than 50mm (equivalent).

(*We APS-C guys have our equivalents, like Alfred Stieglitz had his.)

Those little fuji-"crons" are sweet but lack the special look of the original 1.4/35 and f1.4/23.
I still have one fuji combo the xe1/27mm.... I kept these for carry ability.
Still,... I kick myself for not keeping the f1.4/35mm instead.
It's still THE reason to buy into the fuji-verse.

That pairing (while both are excellent lenses) would not be for me. I prefer not anything so obviously wide and 16 gets into that category. The 56 would not get regular enough use for me as say a 35. I've been in a quandary over lenses for Fuji in the past and not completely satisfied still as I write to share my two cents.

My issue is that if I go travel light I want a really good 23 and the 23 f 1.4 is just a tad too large with hood mounted. It is so good though that I keep it. The 27mm should suffice but I want something wider and small like a 35 'cron on a Leica.

So maybe going out with 18 f2 (nice lens) and the 35 f 1.4 should work.....but I get to where I am going and feel I am missing that lovely but large 23 f 1.4

i feel guilty abandoning the fast fuji lenses...they mostly sit except for when i head out with one lens, then it will usually be the 16.
i just packed my new domke 5xb (the nylon one) and it fits xe3 with lens attached and 3 other lenses (fuji crons and 18)
just an fyi...the 5xb comes with a nice long strap for us 'big' guys...and also fits the mac mini!

You do quite well with what you are using lens-wise, besides you can invoke the f64 club even though your format isn't quite 8x10 ;)

The bag for my Fuji gear is an older model Artisan and Artist One-day. My favorite travel bag a few years back, was the Domke 3Xb. I'm just a bit over 5'8"....well I was.... That was a great bag and I generally travel light. Lately, I often carry a back pack and then just take the camera on outings without a bag.

For me, coming from and still shooting Leica, I love small, and fast (mainly for shallow dof) so I would love Fuji to take another shot at the 23 f2. I'd also be good with a 27 f2 even a bit larger than the current issue 27.

if that's a complement i'll take it.

My 2 lens rig is Fuji's 23mm f1.4 and the Zeiss 32mm f1.8. I have the 56, but so rarely need the reach that it doesn't come along when 2 lenses are all I can carry. I must admit the 16mm has tempted me. Should I succumb to its siren song, I imagine it would replace the 23 on such outings.

my do-it-all-duo would be 14mm and 35mm.

recently, i do all traveling with the X100, and while its field of view suffices for almost all cases, it doesn't really replace the combo of 21mm (eq.) and (especially the) 50mm (eq.). for me, at least.

No, I couldn't.

For one thing, they are too large for me to use on a regular basis.

Second, the OVF's primary advantage (being able to see what's outside the frame lines) is compromised.

And, it limits where I would have to stand for the majority of my work.

16 and 56 are too far apart for me.
I can see
someone who favors wide choosing 16 and 35
Someone who favors longer using 35 and 56.

Joe, if you let us have three, then "all the above" would make a nice trio.
