Fuji 800 Film: Good/Bad/????

Thanks Frank in the last 5 years i shot this temple so many times in all formats
it was only when i scanned this neg and converted to b/w that i thought this one may be a keeper.

Gentlepeople,

Thanks all, I've been watching this thread.

Ended up with some Superia 800 Extra and will try it
as an 'all arounder', special thanks to kevin m for the
b&w conversion.

thafred, that middle photo looks like a stock sales winner to me!

abbazz, Simon L. & Jan N'dale, please stop provoking my
M/F lust. I've an Agfa Record but no reasonable lab prices
(yet, still looking) for 6 X 9. Nice stuff fellows.

Great image, Simon. I should use my GL690 more often these days. The lens isvery sharp, as you know.

Thanks Raid. IMHO i think the last version with the fixed 90/3.5 is the best they made.

I have the 100mm/3.5 AE lens, which is very sharp.

Raid,

There are sharper MF lenses, like the Mamiya 80mm for Mamiya 7 or the Fujinon 90mm on the newer Fuji GW690. But I prefer the smooth rendition of out of focus areas offered by this vintage tessar formula lens. Used wide open, this is a great lens for portrait, while it is sharp enough for general photography closed down a little -- the huge 6x9 negative size sure helps a lot.

As for Fuji ISO 800 film, B&H used to offer 5 rolls packs of imported Pro 800Z for around $30. I just checked their website, they only list 5 rolls packs of USA Pro 800Z for $44.75 (ouch!) and it's out of stock. Funny enough, this film goes for $6.99 if you buy it by the roll at B&H...

The new bargain priced 220 film on B&H seems to be the imported Pro 400H for $5.29 a roll; then again, don't buy a 5 rolls pack, because it will cost you $29.95. Something wrong with their maths!

Cheers,

Abbazz
