Fuji confirmed X100 will be available around March for $1,000 ish MSRP.

Interesting ... I've told myself I definitely don't need one of these as it encompases a style of photography that's not really my thing ... but!

Aside from Leica whose prices are fom another planet anyway, is this now the world's most expensive point and shoot? And how many people will be dumping X1's, micro 4/3 systems etc to snaffle one these in March?
 
Ok we all had time to digest what a cool camera this is, so I think it sucks to announce a camera almost 6 months before shipping. So I now am over this thing.
 
Great news. I'll jump on when there is a f2/35mm or better f1.4/40mm version. I prefer a 50mm FOV. Hope fuji has the second camera already up on the drawing board :D

Another note. The lens diagram on the official site shows a somewhat Biogon-esk scheme. That is very interesting considering the mostly retro-focus designs of the m4/3 lenses. This may be a real breakthrough in terms of Iq and low distortion. Hope so.
 
That price point is better than I expected, good news if true. If it lands in March it will make an excellent birthday present to myself :)

With such a long lead time I won't surprised at all if it slips a bit, though they are not facing real ground breaking innovations as Sigma did with the DP1, which was delayed quite a bit.

Should be fun.

I won't abandon my m4/3 camera, but I could easily abandon the high-end compact market (Panasonic LX, Canon G, Nikon P, etc.). I would have been in the fixed focal length segment if some of the offerings there didn't have issues (Sigma, Ricoh, etc.). I'm stoked about the VF (a deal maker really). I'd pay that price for a very good camera, but I want good ergos, good high ISO, fast write times, fast AF, and good glass with low distortion. I'm dreaming, I know. :D

Very interesting point about Biogon-like lens design, Andy. Good fundamental IQ and VF with hardware based exposure controls (super stoked about the aperture ring) are the key elements for me.

Shooting this camera in RAW could enable me to shoot in the style I'd do with film (other than zone focusing..)

Very aggressive price point if they can keep the promise.

Sigma like approach with different FL brothers, coupled with some really good conversion lens line-up could be fun.
 
i'm very happy with one lens (20/1.7) and the panasonic g1 so i know i could be happy with this rig as well. i would miss that articulating screen though...so i guess i really need both.:)

i can't see a street shooter not having this camera in his bag.
 
Is the price point attained by use of an older sensor? I know little about it, but that is a concern for me.
 
I would wait for people to buy it, use it, complain about it, praise it and sell it before I decide whether I want to get it.
 
Rather good looking Retro design....Leica should have taken a step in this direction with that X-1 thingy, but they seem to have forgotten where they came from (the M6J back in 1994 was a great step in the right direction, but Leica was being run by different people then) ~ *Leica needs to do a Digital version of the IIIG with (3) removable screw mount lenses * ~ that would be the hit at $3k ~ "is anyone at Leica listening?" (I doubt it).

With this Fuji X100 the 35mm POV is too limited for what I do, so I wouldn't be interested in one, but if they come out with a Retro camera design with a 50mm POV (Sonnar/Xenon styled signature) with some speed @ f1.4/f1.5 lens then it's a deal at $1K.

The X1 was Leica's attempt at making a IIIg. Sure, no interchangable lenses, but Leica needed a "budget" model, so they made the X1. What you are asking Leica to do at $3000 will never happen from Leica. They are not interested in catering to people with short arms and long pockets.
 
I hope to be in the States in March, it would be nice if it had come out. $1000 tends to inflate to 1.4-2.0x that when it comes to Norway.
