Fuji confirmed X100 will be available around March for $1,000 ish MSRP.

While I'm onboard for the x100, I would die for what you're describing. I prefer 50 to 35 and with a sonnar I'd be in heaven. Still, the x100 is close enough for now.

I'm not dumping my E-P2 for this one. They occupy pretty much the same usefulness area.

But this one will be here sooner than we'd realize. It remains interesting to see the reaction after it's released.
 
I think I've talked myself in to this camera (it wasn't difficult).
In any case, I feel the need to find $1k between now and March to be ready for the possibility.
Seems a great camera to have in the bag when I'm shooting polaroids or medium format film.

All of your concerns have to do with lens design. Fuji is capable of making really great lenses. So I have little concern about the lens.

You would be right to point out many other possible let downs, especially from such an "out of left field" new product. But again, Fuji aren't rookies here and I would put as much faith in their engineers as I would in any other companie's.

I'm normally not an early adopter, but I have few, if any, reservations about this camera.
 
I'am not a early adopter either but will defiantly be getting this the moment it's available. All i've ever asked for is a large sensor and a fast lens. f2 is plenty fast for me after all the slow zooms i've used on DSLR's.

I agree... Fuji hit the mark I think but I do prefer 50 to 35, so I think I'm sticking with my Nikon compact DSLR with 35mm/1.8 (50 equiv) fixed lens for now. Size, "looks" being the trade-off but that's okay. The Fuji tiz a thing of beauty, though.

I can see the m4/3 format getting clobbered by this camera. What really interest me is not so much this model but what they have in store for future models. I think if they make an interchangeable lens design...well, then it's all over for many shooters.
Fuji makes great glass and if they go that route....man now we're talking...
It's a shame that Oly and Panny missed the boat.

i know you like your interchangeable lenses, Street, but some of are fans of a fixed lens cameras for the street. you learn the FOV in and out and then never need think about it.

especially as a first offering, Fuji has built the sensor to the lens which should offer the highest quality. when something is made for interchangeable lenses, especially with a smaller sensor, the quality will suffer. at least, imo. but i am sure that this will be a future offering to satisfy you and many others.

i know i'm weird -- i don't like zooms either 😛
 
Cam, I'm a monogamous guy. I use the GF1 with the 17.
Sure, I have other lenses but for the street, it's the 17 as it sees how I see.
All I ever wanted was a camera that sees 35mm and does not intrude in my vision.
The GF1 does this. Hopefully, the Fuji will have an option to turn off info in the finder.
If not... I'm out!

ooh... you bring up a point i never thought to ask about -- info in the finder. mea culpa! not that i even remember seeing that (i was more concerned with focusing speed -- which was impressive indeed)... i will ask about that in an email to my contact there and get back to you on that.

you know i have not been seduced into the m4/3 fold (despite K's best efforts)... i just stick with the 35mm most of the time on my M8 and dream of a time when i can afford FF... this Fuji costs less than the price of 24mm lens for my cam 😛
