As an X1 user, how do you see the Fuji?
I'd be interested in your opinion. Of course it's hard to compare without a sample but from the info around... What do you think?

I see it fitting in-between the X1 and the M8.2 for me. I love the X1 (really I do), but it is slow and is more suited for a leisurely pace IMO. However, it is super light, has great high ISO IQ, is fun to use, and is the perfect take anywhere camera (you don't notice it on your shoulder or neck). The M8.2 is my serious camera... when I know there will be great photo ops, I take this camera. However, it is still heavy and with the bad high ISO and slow lenses I use, it is still a daytime / sunlight camera for me.

I see the Fuji fitting in-between simply because I think it has the potential to have great high ISO with a fast lens. I'm a big fan of the 35mm focal length. I see this as my serious use anytime camera... night, indoors, macro, etc. For me, it seems to be the missing link in my tool box since I hate SLRs, zooms, and small sensors and prefer digital to film these days.

If it were me -- meaning I'm not putting ideas in your head 🙂 -- I'd sell the X1 while people are still unsure about the Fuji X100.

Once the actual release happens, I think it'll be tough to get back anywhere close to what you pay for the X1.

Why would I sell it? It's a great camera for my needs. I'm keeping it. I'm just going to add the X100 to what I already have. Also, I don't think the X1 will drop in value based on this camera. Niche cameras hold their value better than consumer goods... the X1 is not a mass-produced sony cam sold in a department store.

My usual setup for a loooong time was a Nikon FE2 with a 35mm lens, and another FE2 with an 85/2 or a 180/2.8, and a 24/2.8 in the bag. My current usual setup is an M6 with a 35 and a DSLR with a zoom. Or just the M6.

In any case I've almost always done at least 75% of my work with a dedicated camera with a 35.

My first FE2 and that 35 were considerably more than $1000 in 2010 dollars, as were my M6 and 35. My most recent 35, the Biogon-C, was nearly $1000 by itself.

A thousand bucks for a camera that does more or less the same things (i.e., takes 75%+ of my pictures) as my primary 35mm film cameras always have is not a bad price at all, especially if it does those things really well.

All of your concerns have to do with lens design. Fuji is capable of making really great lenses. So I have little concern about the lens.

Yup. Fuji makes fantastic lenses. I'm not worried about the optics either, especially after looking at the MTFs.

Interchangeable lens cameras don't take pictures either...if you couldn't afford one.

What's funny is Amazon has "(Concept Model)" out beside it. I don't think I've ever seen things advertised before on these sites when all that exists is a concept model. Is this some new trend on Amazon:

"Nikon might produce a new 50mp DRF in 2012, but haven't mentioned it yet.. Click HERE to be notified if it becomes available."

Funny indeed. I've seen smaller resellers listing way too "new" products, but didn't think Amazon would do it. DPReview is now owned by Amazon. Maybe they are checking the interest level of new camera products through DPR and deciding what to put early.
