I had the same question. I recently bought an Instax SQ6 and will try the Polaroid negative-separation technique on some square format Instax film. Curious as to what will happen.

The problem is not about film vs. film, or film vs. digital.
It is about taking back control from the company to the consumer.

Consumers in niche markets never have control. Niche consumers are at the mercy of smaller companies that target niche markets. Roll film is a niche market.

Why do you think Fuji likes Instax very much, but discontinues film rolls?
IMHO, it is because Instax is a very proprietary format, without much competition (apart incompatible brands like Impossible Project and Lomo).
When Fuji asks about 16 euro for an Instax recharge, Instax users have to accept.
When Fuji asks 16 euros for 1 roll of Velvia, consumers can reply "f*** off".

It's because FUJIFILM exists to make a profit for its stakeholders. Their Instax strategy is a success because it is profitable. Roll film is such less profitable because the demand for roll film has sharply declined over the past decade. FUJFILM doesn't need roll film customers to be profitable. Increased roll film costs initial a downward spiral in sales.

Are you suggesting FUJIFILM should have embraced the same business plan Eastman Kodak used? We all know how that turned out.

With one film camera in the pocket, the consumer is very independent of any camera or film makers.

It is possible for some of us to purchase and store enough film to last for the rest of our lives. Independence is possible. Otherwise, sooner or later, people need to buy film from somebody.

fuji films are too contrasty. I don't like them usually. We will see what my thoughts are with the Acros video coming up.

Shot quite a bit of Neopan 400 at a paper I worked at years ago, then started experimenting with the Acros 100 some. Loved both films; This is good news!

Unless I missed it, I didn't see any mention of Instax film in the linked article, only Polaroid integral films. Would the same technique work on Instax films? If it's possible to separate negative from the positive for Instax, I'd love to know how.
