why use tubes?

Just mount a quality close up lens and focus with the LCD.

I don't have any experience of extension tubes with the Fuji system - however, I'd agree with the previous post i.e. that a close-up lens can deliver the goods. Buy wisely, and use it on a lens of good quality and all should be well. I have used extension tubes on another system (Canon), but never found them to be discernibly better than a GOOD QUALITY close-up lens.

Should you decide to go for a close-up lens, I'd recommend trying it out first, mounted on the lens that you intend to use, as vignetting can sometimes be a problem. My Raynox DCR-250 (link) - an 8 dioptre close-up lens - works well, and delivers nice results when used on various adapted lenses with my x-E1. However, when used on the Fuji 18-55mm, there is serious vignetting.

Yes, that's basically true. However, you can also get stepping rings to accommodate different filter thread sizes. I bought one just a couple of months ago, and the price was around £5... roughly equal to $9 (Canadian). I have a few stepping rings, as I use the close-up lens on several different lenses. The system works well.🙂

i was thinking about step up/down rings...tubes or filters both have these minor complications.
i put an wtb ad in the classifieds here for a fuji 60 lens...

I suspect the choice depends on how concerned you are about a flat field and edge to edge sharpness. I'd just use an old Canon fd extension tube between my adaptor and an old fd lens.

I've never used (or even handled) the XF 60mm macro, but I've seen many very positive reviews, so this is probably the way to go - especially if you want to avoid the 'complications' of extension tubes or close-up lenses. Let us know how it goes.

i had one before and it's an excellent lens, especially for someone (like me) that isn't interested in 'true' macro but more extreme close up.
i'm thinking of using it as part of my 'abstract' shooting.

I purchased two auto extension tubes (10mm and 16mm) for my 56mm lens because I needed to get tight face portraits. However, I rarely use the tubes because I found it easier to use a longer focal length macro lens (adapted 105mm f/2.8 Nikon macro).
