Fuji Neopan B&W 400 CN (C41)

Doug's stuff looks great!! :) I also heard that Fuji sources the film from Ilford but that it isn't XP2 but as Joe points out, maybe a sibling. Jeff Ascough is a very discriminating photog, and if he went to the trouble of getting NP400CN instead of just popping down to his local photo store in Derby and buying a brick of XP2 (which was manufactured just up the road in Knutsford I think) then you can bet he saw a real difference between the films.

This Fuji film was as result of a collaboration between Fuji and Ilford.

It's is similar to XP2, but it is not the same.

I'm not sure who manufactures it.

The box says it's made in UK for Fuji. As with the Ilford film I set my meter to 250 for the Neopan, and the film base color, densities and scans look the same as XP2 as best I can make out without scientific testing...

I prefer the Neopan CN, over the excellent Ilford XP-2. I'm not bashing the XP-2, it's quite good. But it seems to me, when comparing them, that the Fuji version is a bit better. It's made by Ilford, per Fuji specs. I use it quite a bit. Here's a scan I made from a photo mag on it. I burn quite a bit of the Neopan 400CN, and really like it. Check out the attached scan.

So if I understand correctly this is based on Ilford XP2, but slightly different, and it is manufactured by Ilford.

Many thanks to all. I'll try it at 400 at first and then move to over exposing 0.5 to 1.0 stops. Although the film is still in transit and not expected here until the end of the week.

I've never used XP2, but I did try XP1 when it was launched over 20 years ago. The marketing people at Ilford said it could be rated at up to 1600. Maybe things have changed since then.

I burn my XP-2 and Neopan 400CN @ 320 or 250, with very nice results. When I sent the "camera around the world" Canonet to Chaser, I included a roll or two of Neopan 400CN with it. I wonder how he liked it? Here's another Neopan 400CN snap.

Are you kidding? It's all dumb luck. I can't figure out all this f/stop, aperture high tech talk. What's it all mean? :bang: I get my Neopan 400CN by the brick, from a buddy of mine in the UK. Here's another "lucky" snap...
