I recently shot a roll of this that expired in 1982 and I was just wondering if you have shot with this film you could share your results as my roll is drying now
Shot some (maybe a couple of rolls?) in the early-mid 70s. As I recall (take that with a grain of salt) tonality was different than Tri-x, but maybe a bit grainier. Can't remember what I used to process it - could have been D76, perhaps HC110.
I shot some of this shortly before it was discontinued about five or six years ago. Its an old school B&W film > wide latitude so very forgiving for exposure errors but quite grainy for ISO 100. Will be interesting to see what you can get out of a film that expired in 1982!
Here's a couple of shots taken with Neopan 100 SS. As you can see, quite grainy for ISO 100.
I shot a dozen rolls about 10 years ago but didn't care for it vs what I had been using. I think at the time I was using Delta 100 and 400. I bought it thinking it might be similar to FP4 but it wasn't. Like above I found it to be grainy with HC110 B. I do think with some experimentation it would have been a good film. If you have some take a few rolls and expose at normal ISO and then try several developers to see what worked best. I seem to remember development time in HC110 B was shorter thAn FP4. Being an old world emulsion one of the pyro developers might produce excellent long scale fine grain negs. If I had a supply that might be where I go first.
I bought 50 rolls shortly before it was discontinued and have about 30 left. I have developed it in either D-76 or Diafine. I don't have a scans as I wet print, but I do like the results I get. I just wish Fujifilm had not discontinued it, or that I had bought a *lot* more of it when I had the chance.
IIRC Neopan SS was discontinued a few years before Neopan 400/Presto.
It's an "old school" emulsion; a little grainy but IMO not objectionably so.
Exposed and developed normally it's more contrasty than Ilford FP4+. 🙂
