Confirms the 16f1.4 and shows a 90f2. I did not remember hearing about the 90f2 (135 fov) before.. But I am more interested in the 90 then the 16.. I hope they come back later and put out a 16f2.8 as a more compact lens for those of us that don't need the speed.

They haven't said anything about that super tel zoom yet out toward end of 2015 (not interested myself but more curious).

these fuji folks is some serious about their lenses!
i hope to be able to afford the 16/1.4…then my lens kit will be complete…though i would not complain about a 16/2.8 either.

For some time I have been considering my own way forward with the X-system, and this thinking is becoming more focused with the recent updates of the lens roadmap. I am coming to believe I can eventually work with this system only, and finance some additional lenses by selling off some of my other gear.

I am mainly an amateur photog (family snaps, rural and urban landscapes, occasional portraits, some street, also wildlife and birds) but have done occasional architectural stuff and interiors for pay, also some sports a long while back. For all this, I need quite a range of lenses, from extreme wide-angle (for interiors) to fairly long tele (for birds). Right now the only X-system gear I have is an XP1 with the 18-55 which covers most of my walking-around needs very well. I also have an EF42 flash unit which I use often – bounced indoors or direct in sunlight – and an M-adapter, so I can use a fast 50 (CV or Canon) for portraits, which I have had since the film days.

In the interests of portability, I normally carry just one or two bodies with a lens on each (and the flash in the bag) – I really don’t care much for changing lenses in the field, so at some point I would likely get a second X-system body (not sure which at this time). Obviously I load my bag according to what I expect to be shooting – I don’t even try to be ready for every possible eventuality.

So I have been looking through the lenses available now and through to the end of 2015, and here are my thoughts on what I might want or not, which I offer for your comments and eventual guidance.

First of all, those lenses I think I might get (some of them anyway) …
XF 18-55 / 2.8-4 – just a reminder, this is my regular walkabout – I have it already.
Wide-angle stuff:
XF 16 / 1.4 – available 2015 q2, efl 24mm – maybe the most useful low-light lens overall.
XF 10-24 / 4 – efl 15mm – for interiors etc., and/or ….
Samyang 8 / 2.8 diagonal fisheye – can also be defished quite effectively.
Longer glass:
XF 55-200 / 3.5-4.8 – mainly for the long end (efl to 300mm) and/or …
Super-tele zoom – available 2015 q4 – expected to reach efl 400mm or more.

And now the lenses I doubt that I’ll want or need (what do you think?) …
XF 14 / 2.8 – Pretty well covered by the 10-24 or the 16 above.
XF 18 / 2 – Only one stop faster than the 18-55 (at 18mm).
XF 23 / 1.4 – I have a fast 35mm for my DSLR, but don’t really use it much.
XF 27 / 2.8 pancake – Pretty well covered by the 18-55. Could also use my CV 28/3.5.
XF 35 / 1.4 – I have a fast 50mm for my DSLR, but don’t really use it much.
XF 56 / 1.2 – portrait lens. I’d likely use a fast 50 with the M-adapter.
XF 60 / 2.4 – I do some macro with my DSLR, but not much. Have a Canon close-up lens.
XF 90 / 2 – Available 2015 q2 – Not really sure what I’d use this for. Too short for wildlife and too long for everything else – at least for me.
XF 16-55 / 2.8 – Available 2015 q1 – too big for walkabout, I expect.
XF 18-135 / 3.5-5.6 – Single lens travel kit. Doesn’t add much to the 18-55 for me.
XF 50-140 / 2.8 – Had 70-200 for DSLR but don’t use it much. Available 2014 q4.

Does this all make sense or am I missing something? I have not included any XC or Zeiss lenses as what we have above pretty well covers it all.

Really great stuff. I've waited for about a decade for Nikon to make these lenses for a travel kit. Fuji is getting my money these days. More than a little shocked the 16-55/2.8 doesn't mention OIS (typo?). I could probably live with that - but many will complain. So the only 16-XXmm mid-zoom with OIS is the XC? Doesn't sound right.

They could probably make "MK II" versions of the original lenses, with quieter, faster AF motors. They got it mostly right the first time. I sense you may be waiting a while for the T/S lenses. Not sure Fuji would be my first choice for studio work.

Still dragging my D800 around at work. Still enjoying shooting sports with my D7000. But when I travel or hike it's Fuji all the way. I'm one of those Nikon "leakers" Thom Hogan talked about. Several things coming together for me here. ACR now does an adequate job on Xtrans files. Fuji has steadily improved it's firmware and, perhaps more importantly, they have shared the upgrades/fixes with early adopters. Fuji's control scheme feels completely natural to me (I'm kind of old).

Good point at this time, but future fuji development might change that. My interest in TS lenses are for product and architecture, currently using canon. An 24 mp APS-C sensor (if one were offered) for the x-series would give me the necessary resolution and then benefits like added DOF versus my FF canon set-up, in addition to fuji's lighter weight, lower cost, etc.

I am very pleased with the seven Fujinon X lenses I use.

I would not mind a version of the 35/1.4 with faster AF motor technology. Although the XT-1 drives the lens a bit quicker than the X-Pro 1. I have read the Touit 32/1.8 AF is not faster, so that's not an option.

There are two small primes (18/2, 27/2.8) and these meet my needs when I want to use the lightest, smallest kit.

The 14/2.8, 23/1.4 and 56/1.3 are almost too long. But they are not too heavy.

And I would buy a 14/4 tilt-shift lens immediately at just about any price.

wow, at first I read 16mm f/4 then I just re-read it and 1.4

fuji is seriously releasing some killer lens for the Fuji cameras.
if i were shooting for a living, I wouldn't mind getting an X100s again and XT1 w/ 10-24, 35mm and 56mm and maybe 55-200

I recently got a great deal on a 14/2.8 and it's one of the best wide angle lenses I have ever used. As good as the 21/4.5 ZM Biogon-C. No distortion that I can detect. None. Almost no lateral or longitudinal CA. Superb flare resistance. Sharp as hell. And it's relatively small and light given the optical quality.

Here's a review that meshes with my own impressions: http://www.lenstip.com/387.11-Lens_review-Fujifilm_Fujinon_XF_14_mm_f_2.8_R_Summary.html

I may get the 16 as well, but it will be bigger, heavier, and is at least a year away…

I'm very happy about the 90mm announcement. It was about time! I miss my canon 135mm L, i hope this will be as good or better. But at least it will be smaller :). However i don't really understand why they want to put out a fast 16mm, when you already have the 14mm and the 18mm.

I have read the Touit 32/1.8 AF is not faster, so that's not an option.

The Touit 32 is also a surprisingly awful lens, with strong longitudinal chromatic aberration and pretty bad bokeh, and the suckiest lens hood I've ever used. I bought one and returned it. The Fuji 35/1.4 is an immensely more pleasing lens for actual photography.

Mmmmmm... 90mm f2 !!

I'll be out in NW Montana often the next few years.
The 60mm has become my standard normal out here.
That 90mm will be great!

The 90f2 hits my sweet spot as well.. Now the only other fixed tele I would like to c is a 120f2.8 (180 fov). :D

I had read unflattering reports about the bokeh.

Thanks for the additional information. I figured I wasn't missing anything, which you confirmed.

I still would like to see a pancake series.

The 27 is a nice start.
Putting the 60 into a normal helicoid and maybe even ....dropping to an f2.8 max to reduce size and weight of elements would make a really trick lens.
Nice and small. Sort of the answer to the old OM 2.8/100mm.
A small lightweight bit of reach for times you need it.
I could go for an f4/14mm with the same attitude.
Small lightweight and slow-ish "just in case" lenses.

Big plus ONE. Yes a pancake series.

The 27 is really an amazing little lens. Leica should just buy the glass from Fuji, put them in "T" mount, write 'Summicron-C" on it, and double the price. People would be like "Wow, a solid, low cost option for my Typ 701!"

A compact 12/4 would be really great, but otherwise the 27 and the 18 have it pretty well covered. The problem is, when you already make a great lens in a certain focal length, just a really good lens becomes a tougher sell - even if it is a bit more compact.
