What a pleasant thought. Especially the 1600 bit.

I have this faint and, well, crazy hope that Fuji is doing film-world one last favour before they bow out. They 're keeping slide film alive until Kodak gets their act together with Ektachrome. And they are passing their secret recipes for all their B&W films to Ilford for a Fuji rebranded line.

Come on Fuji. Do this and you will be FujiFILM forever.

Can't see how Fuji intends to generate demand for this film by outsourcing the coating to Ilford (especially in the short term). Ilford will have control and won't let the Acros II compete on price with their Delta 100 (so in effect it can compete with any BW film). Acros 100 II will still have the best reciprocity characteristics but we have to remember that most users that loved Acros 100 have freezers full of Acros 100 by now. Are they going to keep buying?

They discontinued original Acros 100 because of low demand and now they aren't doing anything to increase demand. Seems like they are doing everything to make this a second Neopan 400 re-release (that lasted less than a year).

You have to wonder what happened at Fuji if Ilford is needed in production of their BW film. Kinda makes the fairytale of trouble of sourcing one of the raw materials exactly that... a fairytale. Unless they meant trouble of sourcing a coating machine 😉

Just a guess on my part, but perhaps Fuji’s plants are better suited for large production runs (color), while Ilford/Harman’s smaller, more nimble plant is best suited for smaller production runs (B&W). So Fuji will have Ilford/Harman coat the new Acros.

As good a hypothesis as anything else I've read. Truth is, despite claims of "evidence" and so on, none of us actually *know* why this product is being made in the UK, to what extent, and for how long. It's all speculation. Why not wait until more precise details come to hand? I know it's not as much fun as going off half cocked—but arguably a better practice, to avoid propagating inaccurate information...

I enjoyed it in all types of light, but it shined for me in open shade:

It could be just the way I do it, but I've found that highlights "fizzle" out with Rodinal and Acros. I get better results in the shade like you say. I still love the Acros contrast.

I like Jim B's/Mackinaw's thought: Giving Fuji the benefit of the doubt, this may be a practical way for them to offer a low-volume B&W film.

Like everyone else, however, I don't know the reasoning behind this move.

Release date was yesterday Friday-22-Nov-2019 in Japan... I understand that the international roll out will be starting in early 2020.

So this morning Saturday-23-Nov I headed to the local Yodobashi Camera... not the main office in Shinjuku, a local branch. They had a few rolls in stock (both 135 and 120 formats) so I picked up three 35mm rolls...

Looking forward to run a test roll...

at that price, ill shoot something else. acros was/is a good film. but not that much better than others/. hopefully its a small batch production cost and prices will come down if and when fuji finishes the film in house.

I have a roll of the old in the freezer and I’ve asked a friend traveling to Tokyo to get me a roll of the new. Perhaps I’ll shoot them side by side with my Nikons. Curious.
