Fujifilm GFX R coming in 2018?

It would help sell GFX to the sort of photographer who chooses X-Pro over X-T, without really incurring huge development costs.

I don't disagree. It wouldn’t surprise me if Fuji does what they did with their APS-C line. They’ll have an X Pro-2 kind of camera, they’ll have an XT-2 kind of camera and they’ll have an X100 kind of camera in MF. Each with slightly different specs to kind of justify the different models. The XT-2 model will be the slightly more expensive/techy model, the X Pro-2 model will be the more classic styled body without a tilt screen and less money and the X100 model will be a fixed lens version of the X Pro-2 model.

What if I told you....I have handled a GFX! 😱

Then I would even less understand, why you don't see the huge difference between the "DSLR-Style" handling of the GFX and the possible RF-Style handling of a possible GFX-R. Those are clearly two totally different experiences in handling and shooting. For many people, like it or not, this also makes a big difference in the decision to buy one or not.

Also it would be a direct hit to the Hasselblads target-audience for half the price...

Sorry but most people who want to and can afford a Hasselblad don't care, they just want the Hasselblad.

But there are many people, who want the one and can only afford the other... Also, I doubt, that your statement is true. IMHO, there may be people, who like the format of the Hasselblad more than the Fujifilm, but would buy the Fujifilm, if there were something like it. For me, that was true, I tested both and preferred the format of the Hasselblad, but independent of the price, I had the feeling, that the Fujifilm is the better system.

We'll see, I guess. If there will be a GFX R, my bet is, that it will be a success.

My film cameras are good enough, my film cameras are good enough, my film cameras are good enough..

Of course they are! Maybe if this was a new film camera from Fuji there would be issues..
😀

Would moving the EVF slightly to the left really make the camera platform more palatable than it already is? I highly doubt they're going to introduce another ergonomic option for people who simply MUST feel like they're shooting with an RF.

Yes, for many of us...it does. But I also understand your point. Are there enough of us to make this feasible.
