Some minimal information about focusing, the sensor, and raw functionality.

Yeah, I got that email too.
I thought this was interesting,
"The exact lag time between the shutter release being pressed and the picture actually being taken is still to be finalised, but it is expected to be around 0.01 seconds."

No let down to me at all... so far. I didn't expect a rangefinder patch... nothing in Fuji's press releases or their website about the X100 said there would be. I don't need one if the AF works fast. Shutter lag is minimal. That's a good thing.

just another point and shoot, nothing to get too excited over.

Wow, so now any camera with autofocus is a point and shoot?

New info doesn't discourage me. I wasn't expecting an RF patch, the focusing scale, or the live evf, OR the AF square blinking is enough for me. I trust my dslr's focus confirmation, why wouldn't I trust this as long as it works? (meaning I don't need actual focus shown in the viewfinder)

point the camera at something, it focuses itself, then takes a picture for you... sounds accurate to me.

The new EMail sent clearly states:
"Price to be determined"
Currencies and development costs change, so they are keeping all options open. Bye Bye $1000.00

as if it was even technically possible to put an "RF patch" in the viewfinder.
An RF patch was never was a possibility. no matter how much you chant and wish and pine. not going to happen. (how could anyone start to think that is beyond me)
however, the display of focus distance in the viewfinder is awesome. memorize the Hyperfocal distance for a few apertures, and you are set.

In the wrong hands even a Nikon D3x, Nikon D3s, or even a Hasselblad H4D-60 can be a "Point and Shoot". To be honest, at times my Nikon D300 is nothing but a P & S.

Only if your expectations are unrealistic.

The camera would need some distance determination capability, which is not possible with contrast autofocus. So yes, there cannot be an RF patch.

I think that the location of the MF/AF switch is poorly choosen.
Yes it might allow for a quick change but its will be moved by accident all the time.
Only solution to that is what I use for my Holga.... Gaffers Tape.

I don't know what brought up the idea of a rangefinder mechanism in this camera? I thought it was clear from the beginning that it would definitely NOT be a real rangefinder.
It's nice that Fuji answers some questions from interested people. Perhaps they want to prevent a huge enthusiasm-bubble based on wrong assumptions.

What I personally find most interested is that Fuji is answering product questions. It's nice to see that a manufacturer is actually paying attention to its customers.

Don't eXchange Freedom!
If every technology brought to a camera is bad (zoom, AF, AE, Auto ISO, High ISO, etc., etc.) no need to wait for them, any Argus will be enough and one can change her lens too (sort of... that's a bad thing too right?!)

Precisely!

It's still hard to tell from their information, but it sounds like you can use the OVF and still have AF confirmation on the focus point:
The fact that they say "yes" as opposed to "only in the EVF" gives me hope that a focus confirmation will light up on the focus point in the OVF as well. Will the autofocus points be visible in the viewfinder?
Yes.

My M6 with 28 at f/16 ( on a sunny day ) is essentially a P+S
Looking forward to my X100 when it finally ships
