Fujifilm X-Pro3 Thoughts?

Seems like a nice camera. An unusual solution with LCD tilt. Would be interesting to see the user feedback when it get released.

The viewfinder rear window looks bigger than that of XPRO2, could be a nice improvement (Zeiss Ikon ZM like). This Xpro series is pretty much the only alternative to digital Leica M these days at a more affordable price. I think Fujifilm will sell a lot of them.

I'd rather get Pan F with Oly 4/3 lenses, like 17 1.8. I could have it no screen and focus like Leica.

I have that exact set up and it focuses nothing leic a Leica.

Two screens instead of one. One of them is better just not to be where.
My main problem with FujiNoFilm is their nikonian choice of the focus scale. Renders entire system to useless for me...

If you’re talking about the clutch type manual focus ring that you pull back to get a hard stop manual focus distance scale, there are several Fujinons with this (and the mechanism isn’t flimsy like the Olympus ones)

Looks good to me, and I'd be happy with the small screen most of the time.

That said, a design where the display can be flipped in place would have been better in the sense that it would not force a choice on the user. I can imagine situations where I'd want to chimp more often, and some where I'd prefer as few distractions as possible.

Like you I am rather relaxed about its design although I can see some people's point of view that a sideways "flippy" screen (and or a screen that is reversible in situ) would be better in principle as it gives greater flexibility. For me the important thing would be that there is an LCD for use when this is helpful in composing. For example low angles, high angles and when mounted on a tripod. The ability to chimp is undoubtedly useful but a slightly lower priority for me. I have been using my Leica M8 again recently and its screen is very 1st generation - hardly useful at all, so I am not a great chimper. But when in doubt about whether you got a shot and if another attempt is needed it is useful. But I suppose people could get around this simply by shooting multiple shots each time to increase the likelihood of getting a "keeper". (Since I grew up shooting film I still have the habit of making single exposures).

if i still was in the fuji camp, i might be all over it. this one seriously appeals to me.
however, i need a digital camera capable of scanning negatives, and unfortunately the fuji x-trans has shown not to do that for me. especially rodinal developed films receive too much of x-trans artifacts.
my "universal" digi cam now is a sony a7, with the additional benefit of being able to reuse all those lovely 50es at their original field of view.

but who knows, maybe? there are too many cameras in my shelves anyway (mostly film based), so one more might not matter. need to put my fingers on it before i know.

When part of the target market is street shooters, the hidden screen seems like a giant miss-step.
One of the best things about mirrorless for street is being able to use the screen for grab shots whilst not being tied to holding the camera up to eye level.

Yeah, I like this a heck of a lot. Everything about these upgrades appeals to me. Fuji Superia is one of my favourite emulsion ranges, like Superia 100, 200, XTRA400, 800. New hybrid EVF, the cool stowaway LCD, the small LCD with film tab on the back, holy cow.



And the titanium body - my only titanium camera is my beloved Contax T3. Fuji are gambling big on the retro crowd or aging RF crowd with this X-Pro iteration. This is likely to be my first Fuji mirrorless camera. Man, if only they made the X100 with a titanium body and durable finish.

An absolutely epic fail by Fujifilm. I dont think I've ever seen a newly announced camera get so many negative responses (seen on Fujirumors and DPR).



I dont know what Fujifilm was smoking when they designed this camera, one that has far less capability than the previous model.

well negativity on DPR forums is quite epic too. am usually very bored if I end up reading anything there. DPR reviews have always been good.

but hope Fuji will do something to the lcd arrangement, before camera actually starts shipping.

I get what KoFe is saying. Leica focuses one direction and Nikon focuses the opposite. Always annoyed me too.

I see them too. But I’m a huge fan of the camera and I like the X-Pro3 too. I’m not the only one I’d think.

It is very odd that the 3rd generation of a camera becomes substantially less usable than the 2nd. That's the primary complaint I see. It is a very justified position IMO.

Definitely not the only one. If I eventually get an M10, it is to shoot color images again with my Leica glass as I've only had the MM for a few years now. When I sent my MM off to get a sensor (this took about 7 mos), I picked up an X Pro 2 and it is tough to rationalize buying an M10 because the Fuji is such a good, well thought out camera.

The flipping (pun intended) rear screen on X-Pro3 is a backwards design step in my opinion, though I acknowledge some will like it and buy the X-Pro3 precisely for this reason.

I just don’t get it. The X-Pro2’s screen can be switched off leaving the rear of the camera blank. Job done. Why now add a limited articulated screen with one axis of movement (something I remember the head of the design team a while back saying that calls for a moveable screen ‘isn’t in the X-Pro design team’s philosophy’)?

The small LCD showing a facsimile of a film box etc is basically an unnecessary gimmick IMO. Why make a camera less user friendly than its predecessor?

Nevertheless I look forward to handling the X-Pro3 when it's available in London to give a fair appraisal.

The X Pro 3 is a substantially less capable camera compared to the 2, hence all the virulent outrage you see across forums.
