Fujifilm X-Pro3 Thoughts?

The small LCD showing a facsimile of a film box etc is basically an unnecessary gimmick IMO. Why make a camera less user friendly than its predecessor?

Exactly. This camera is just embarrassing. There is no reason at all to be designed this way except as a transparent gimmick.

well, i find it not a bad design. however, i reserve my verdict until i could put my paws on the real thing. until now, it's only vapor ware.

It cannot be used as an X Pro 2.

That is true, but to say it is less flexible isn’t completely true.

My worries are that the gimmick screen and use of titanium are going make the camera cost a lot more. That is where I’ll have a problem with this design. It was already $1699 four years ago. Yesterday someone from Fuji said they are going after the high end apsc market. I’m afraid we could see a +$2000 xpro. While the redesign isn’t off putting to me, that price will be. That is when I’ll be wishing they kept the same design.

Basic chimping can't be done with this camera. Everyone laughs and mocks chimping but it is a fact to anyone who has watched someone with a digital camera: 99% of the time they take the shot and then review it on the back screen.

Just try doing that with this ridiculous design that the X Pro 3 has. You have to lower the camera, open the screen, and then review. Once completed you have to close the screen. Yes you can use the viewfinder, but that is not a common chimping method.

By any metric the X Pro 3 camera is waaay less flexible than the X Pro 2.

True again. But should we always be looking at every image? Perhaps the small lcd can be used for review as well. Smart watches show images on a tiny display. It would be enough for me composition and timing wise.

For me, chimping is just a distraction from the joy I get making photographs. Maybe I spent too many years using film cameras, but I find that chimping takes me out of 'the moment' and instead puts me squarely in the land of computers. I don't need that when I'm out in the world with my camera. There's plenty of time for that when I get back home.

Back to this superfluous small LCD screen. Is it on all the time? Can it be switched off? If not, for me, it’d be a serious distraction every time I put the camera to my eye. Gaffer tape comes to mind. Plus battery drain. Will it have an uprated battery? If not, the new sensor, new processor, better viewfinder and… and, an extra LCD screen all contribute to increased demand and more battery drain.

We’re all passionate about our photography and I get what others are saying who have a positive view and welcome the X-Pro3’s new screen ‘improvements’. I love what Fujifilm have brought to the photographic table, especially their lenses and their sensor technology. They are to be applauded for pushing the boundaries of small sensor technology.

But the news about the new X-Pro3 doesn’t sit well with me. This new screen layout and one axis articulation just seems like a ‘what were we thinking’ moment. I just hope I’m wrong.

Other than the color part, it looks like the E-ink display on top of the GFX-50S which can be left always ON, even with the camera powered off. It consumes no power.

Whichever type of display it is, I think it could definitely be turned off...

The new color display will always show information even when off... like the film box graphics that they are using. I haven't heard if it can be turned off... but I would imagine it can be. I'm hoping it can be used for many things other than faux film box info or shutter speed / aperture etc.

That should be your choice. With this camera, Fujifilm takes away that choice from you. And you get nothing in return.

An epic fail by Fujifilm.

For the other 99.9% of photographers, they will want to chimp and find that they can't if they are so unlucky as to have an X-Pro 3.

You can still chimp... by flipping down the LCD or through the EVF. If you need to chimp after each and every shot, maybe it isn't that practical... but do you really need to do that?

I think that the only problem Fujifilm will have selling the X-Pro3 camera is keeping up with demand. That camera is going to be flying off the shelf!

The only problem for me is choosing the color. DURA Black is in first place for now; mainly because it sounds so cool... DURA Black!

All the best,
Mike

Dude.. Did Fuji toss your salad or something?

Chill. We understand you do not like it.

So log out, move on, other threads.

Anything other than perpetuate a narrow view? Please?

Y-Mike! Def. Dura Black Bud!

But will the 3 be able to take better pics than the 2?

Does it have a better sensor?
Does it have better af?
Does it have better film modes?
Does it have a better VF?

I don’t care about chimping because I don’t.

As if it really matters ... but they need to keeping dangling that carrot!
