fun reading on photonet

nwcanonman:

When I was a kid I went to Bakersfield College and worked nights as a Kern County deputy sheriff. I started hanging around the daughter of the richest man in town. Apparently he didn't think I was the right guy for her, so he put in a call to his golfing buddy, the Sheriff. I was transfered to Mojave the next day. Had to drop out of school for a semester.

I recall the wind. It never stopped.

While I think both Jorge and Joe deserve enormous credit, we're a pretty laid-back bunch here - there is a fair amount of self-regulation. It isn't a single-brand forum so we have many members here who have more than one make of camera or lens. Maybe that is a factor in the tone of the forum.

The other day I was reading a thread on a Leica forum (not PN) about 135mm lenses and the advantages and disadvantages of the various choices, and I was dying to post that well, the Jupiter-11 is well worth thinking about too! But then when I considered the probable response:  I decided not to post. I wouldn't have those kind of qualms here.

The Leica forum on PN used to be really excellent but as Doug says the nutters have taken over. It has really deteriorated over the last year and now is a shell of what it used to be. We should all take the responsibility to try and make sure it doesn't happen here...

You're wrong, Frank, - you were criticizing him, yes, but in a civilized and friendly manner, unlike some others. If someone cannot accept that, it's his own fault/problem. No need to feel bad about it.
