It's an odd photo but very lovely in its oddity!

I walked into the bathroom this morning and saw this on the windowsill. I’ve learned never to question my wife’s arrangements

Hmm. Tonal qualities on Untitled 2021 #1 and #2 seem too dark and not fully expressed. The histogram on both of them is missing the top 40% of the range.
I like #1, would like to see it with a bit more rendering work on it.

I will look at it again - honestly though I don’t live and die by the histogram.

I agree with you on the "not living and dying by the histogram". I just used it as a tool to express what I felt about the photo. I'll send you a private note in a moment.

That's better Vince. You got to NM just in time for a big storm!

Yeah it's a bit chilly and drizzly here in Carrizozo!

It is, but that's a good thing! In the middle of NM's current drought, no one here complains about precipitation in any form!

Retro, are you from NM? I agree. Any moisture here is a blessing. I'm not "REALLY" complaining after spending the last hour outside doing chores in the 40MPH winds and horizontal sleet

I am from NM, if not a native (eleven years and counting). And right now, where I am in Edgewood, last night's storm is clearing quickly after leaving us with about an inch of snow, and one of those magnificent post-storm New Mexico skies that take your breath away. Time to get out and shoot!
Your shoveling chores don't sound like much fun, but be grateful you're not one of those poor folks who spent the night trapped in a tram car halfway up the Sandias! It does beg the question: What were they thinking when they decided to go up there on a night like that!

Very nice, Vince! Looks like you're getting right into the New Mexico groove! I'm eager to see what other gems you create on this visit. And I must say, having seen all of your NM work, that you "get it", meaning the unique strangeness and beauty of this place. Too many photographers, both visitors and natives, can't get past the old cliches of bright red chile ristras or neon-colored hot air balloons. Keep 'em coming!

I do appreciate it! I think there is one thing about photographing here that is constantly in the back of my mind, and you summed it up. Not that I’m not a sucker for all the Route 66 stuff, Ansel Adams re-creations etc, but I don’t think the world needs more of that kind of work coming from the likes of me. Not to say that I don’t do that work, but if I do it I try to somehow put my own little spin on it. To be sure, I’m not always successful (actually I’m mostly not successful!), but I try.

Vince, you are killing me. After revisiting this thread, I always wind up asking myself, "now how am I going to afford one of these cameras?" It would be so much easier if your pictures were trash. Sigh. Seriously, though. Nice work. It is always a treat.
