Fund Raising for Al Kaplan: Buy a Tee-Shirt, the proceeds will go to all Al

Read this thread on Photo.net. It's got the email address of the guy that used to sell the shirts, he might be willing to donate his original shot.

I'd buy if it were a black shirt (XL), else I'll just put in some bucks to support Al's health care.

If we do the shirts, I'm in for an XL.

Myabe photoshop out the cig on the original, put in a carrot stick, and include a caption that says: "Al's a (s)well guy!"

Sounds like folks are as interested in getting a T-Shirt as actually helping Al. Fair enough. But the logistics seem daunting. How much is the plan to tack onto to the cost of the shirt to benefit Al? And who is actually going to make this happen? An individual is going to have to actually do the real world work on this.

I've already started looking into this as well - once I track down the artwork that is.

Marc responded to me and stated that he's good with us using his artwork but another guy by the name of James Mitchell actually has the artwork and made the T-Shirts. So, I'm off to hunt him down.

Stay Tuned,
Dave

Very true
It will take a big commitment from someone to pull this off

Ok.. I've sent James an email and, based on his recent postings, he's active on Photo Net.

Now, as with Marc, we wait.

Cheers,
Dave

Ok..

I got an email back from James Mitchell.
He was unaware of Al's illness and would be happy to help out by producing the original artwork.

He's going to have a look around and see what he can find before he heads off for the holiday tomorrow.

Cheers,
Dave

I'm a newbee here on RFF - but when I started to read the forums I noticed Al Kaplan's inputs. Being an old hippie myself I liked his stories from the good old days. I think the slogan - Do it - by Jerry Rubin, might be the message to Al now. Get better to tell us more stories - just do it.

I'm ready to buy a X3 T-shirt if the picture shows Al with his Leicas as I think the original did - if it can add some funds to his benefit. I will be glad to pay whatever it takes and I know that the postages to Iceland will be costly.

Please send me a PayPal addres when all is set and done - and I will make a transfer without delay.

Best regards

Petur, Iceland

Al has given me some great advice on this forum in the past. If there's anything that I could help with, please advise. +1 on the T-shirt.

I'll be looking for the original artwork for the two Al T-shirts today. The first one in 2004 was a shot by Jonathan G. on Photo.net. The second one was the shot you've been referring to by Marc Williams. The company I used to create the two shirts only did photos on white. Perhaps someone could research another company who could do a gray or black. I'll look in my storage. I may even have a few shirts left over from the 2004 and 2005 era. I am all in to help Al. He is a very good friend of mine. Thanks to David and Robert for alerting me to this. I don't check the postings in this forum enough.

Quoting below from digitalintrigue, who kindly took the reins and set up a PayPal account.

Anyone wanting to contribute without the t-shirt can simply send money per the details below. Feeling bad about commercializing this, I already ponied up a few shekels. I'll buy a t-shirt if we can get all this together... sure looks like we will with all the gathering momentum here thanks to many industrious site members. Way to go guys/gals. You can put your money where your heart (or mouth) is without waiting on the shirts. Presumably the same account can used when the t-shirt project comes to fruition.

I'm off to visit family without any computer access until Monday, so best wishes to all for the holiday!

From Digital Intrigue's post somewhere earlier in the thread...

sending donation now, thanks for setting it up. Will also b buying a tshirt.
Al, if your watching were all pullling for you!

As we move forward with this (Thank you James for looking into the artwork, DigitalIntrigue for the PayPal account and all who are interested in one way or another), I would hope that Mukul can verify if Al "needs" these funds.

What I mean to say is, if Al does not want or "need" the funds (if they come from the t-shirts or from donations), is there another option for what we should do with said funds? I think we would ask Al what he'd like to do but if he does not want/need the funds and does not want to make a decision as to where the funds should go, should we look at a particular charity?

Cheers,
Dave
