Not far from a toy camera I bought a funny Olympus Trip 35 this WE, test roll is not finished, but ut seem s to work fine, ...

Funny how this little camera seems invisible to other when taking some street photography.

This a not a real rangefinder but it's sooo cute ....

Those Olympuses (Olympi?) sure are cute! I want one for cycling... I'm a bike courier and I can't really carry my Voigtlander gear with me, something like a Trip 35 would be great.

Maybe with my first pay cheque...

Got absolutely drenched today but everything in my Crumpler bag stayed totally dry.
 
Those small olympuses are very nice, I have a half-frame Pen EEs myself. It fits easily in a pocket and takes 72 photographs one roll of film. The only problem is that it only has a 1/40 shutter speed, so I can only change the diaphragm. (Olympuses seem to be popular in belgium 🙂 )

The Belgian group on RFF becomes big 😉 And rangefinder-virus seems to be spread all over Belgium 😀 But now It's to hot to go photographing 🙄

And Stephan I will even give you a fed-1 for your Leica R6 😀

Mika, I bet you'll have loads of fun with your trip 35; if you want to do some modifications, here's a link where it's explained how to make the Trip 35 use the 1/200 shutter speed in manual mode instead of the default 1/40. (I haven't tried this myself though).

to all you fellow Belgians: enjoy the nice weather, it may not last much longer (well, I'm off to the garden, get me some ice cream and think about you poor guys at work 😀)

Dammit I need a garden 😛 And a bbq... and an end to all exams, ever 😀 Only 2 more to go...


Joris and Mika: Hmmm... i think I'll keep the R6 for now 😛 If yu happen to know anyone selling R lenses drop me a line by the way 🙂

hang in there Stephan! I have to finish my thesis, so I kind of know what you're going through (good thing with the thesis is that I can go in the garden and "contemplate" 🙂 )

I'm not sure, it seems to work but I never get the red warning when there's not enough light,... that's why I use a test film,... wait and see.

Thanks for the link I'm unable to do such a work with my "two left hands",... but it's interesting to see how it is in this tiny camera. Zouf in my favorites.

Then for those who wanted to know about my garden ? The water of the swimming pool is not far from 29°C, and she's waiting for me. Morning is the best moment for swimming without children's splash!....

Trip 35

I have an Olympus Trip 35 that I purchased at a thrift shop a few years ago with a lens cap and the original case. It is in mint condition, and takes great photos, the first roll I shot with it just floored me. I also have an Olympus Pen EE that I purchased at a garage sale for 3 or 4 dollars Canadian. It takes good photos as well, but maybe not as good as the Trip 35. The nice thing about having both these cameras is that you can swap the filters between the two, they are the same size.
 
I have three Trip 35's I bought at yard sales and a Pen EE i bought on Ebay. Of course only the Pen EE is a troubled soul. Seems to work fine sans film, but add film and the shutter locks up. Grrrrrr.
 
A rock climber friend of mine had a Trip-35 that went with him on every climb, and every camping trip. He took absolutely no care of it at all (That's why he got it in the first place), used it freely in rain and snow. After a couple of years it looked pretty beat up. It still took great pictures. A really tough little camera, the Trip.
 
Hi and thanks for you messages. I just received back my test film made with the Trip 35. Maybe not the best ever, but as in the title it's so funny.

I think that the lightmeter is a little bit out of her range, not out of order but a little bit overxposed,...

I'll keep this one for candid or street photography.

If your test roll is a bit overexposed it would be that the Selenium cell is "weak", it means old. It can be corrected as long as the light meter has an adjustable resistor or some other way to adjust the deflection of the meter needle (you have to open the top cover). Tipical adjustment techniques are: to adjust the resistor value either if its a fixed value (replacement) or variable (usually you have to reduce the ohms value), rotating a little the moving coil meter (because of the design of the auto exposure feature), bending a little the part of the meter needle that gets trapped (and sets diaphragm opening) when you push the trigger button.
The easy way: adjust ISO setting a little bit higher (if possible) say from ISO100 to 125 or 160. Some simple cameras don´t allow you to do this.
The Trip 35 is a very good yet simple camera, you won´t ever regret having one! Have fun with this beauty!

I have a Trip 35 that I haven't used in ages. I have tried it with slide film and the results were excellent. I even tried it with a handheld meter. Using the camera on manual with its 1/40 sec fixed speed and again I couldn't fault it.
