This worked and was much neater than the original:

So using the above for inspiration I have come up with this, which by the time it is finished will be small, unobtrusive and useable. If it does not vignette I will finish it by turning down the knurling on the step down ring to improve access to the aperture tab.

When it comes to Summars, I said yesterday that 'Jack the Hat' hadn't shown signs of vignetting but on reflection I haven't used it at f2. Not sure if that will make a difference. It is on the right of the picture. This Summar now has a small hood on it that may not be as good as a SOOMP but should at least help without being obtrusive.

Did you just cut the Jack in Hat hood length by half or ? If not , then would the JIH hood cut down work just as well?

There's a great design for a 3D printed Summar hood on Thingiverse. I've been using it for the past few months with good effect!

It's friction fit, but it is designed very well and won't move easily once you have it attached to the lens properly.

No I haven't cut the JIH hood yet, as I said it hasn't vignetted for me. The small hood on the Summar is I think from an Arco Cine camera.

I will be receiving JIH hood soon. I suspect I will cut some of the length as suggested by Erik...at some point. I need to shoot wide open and see what happens.

Yes, I read this and frankly it's probably really interesting and relevant. However, too much in the weeds for me to process when just taking a hacksaw(or welding torch!!!) to JIH screw in will probably do the trick.

As far as I can see the 3D printed hood is sort of SOOMP knockoff. Yes, it is ugly. Yes it is ungainly and maybe even unworthy. but for 5-10$ may have some utility. It's press fit and give you a way to screw in 34mm filters. I'd like to use a yellow or orange filter once in a while.

Just a thought.

Yep, it's a SOOMP copy. Cost me 13-14 hrs to print and less than $5 of filament. It's an option for those who want an economical alternative

What material did you use. If have commercial printer, they offer quite a few options. I guess PLA or ABS?

I wonder if you could have a rotating ring on the outside with a cutout for the aperture tab, so that you can turn that to adjust it rather than having to get a finger in to move the lever.
