FYI - Fuji 55-200 rumor April 17

Thanks, Gary. That one is at the top of my list. An essential part of the way I'm defining my use of the X system. I don't have any other camera that would do long tele.

Currently my long tele setup is an omd w/ Konica 50f2 or CV 50f1.5 or Leica 50f2 or 90f2.8 TE or Leica 135f4. Thus I have 100f1.5 or f2, 180f2.8 and 270f4 covered. I never sold off my Leica film setup. I find the ibis stabilization setup, the best of have ever come across. The old rf lenses are actually pretty well proportioned to the overall size of the omd.

If it wasn't for the omd, I would may have considered the new zoom.

I am enjoying monochrom so much on the dp Merrill's, it has become my default setup.

For me
- monochrom - dp Merrill (doesn't hurt I can still have color if I choose later)
- long tele work - omd
- color - Fuji x series

Even though I had used Leica film cameras for a very long time (m6, Konica rf, CLE and CL), for whatever reason, the Leica digital has not tempted me enough... The closest I ever got to pulling the trigger was the monochrom. The m8 intrigued me.... But I lost interest. By the time the m9 rolled along, wasn't interested any longer. But I almost pulled the trigger on the m9m. I still have some of my 35mm film cameras.. But these days when I use film it is for a medium format folder usage. I occasional use 35mm film but it is pretty rare. All my file work these days is b&w self developed and scanned. I am pretty lazy at scanning and my negs are backed up waiting 🙁.

I only just got a C/Y adapter for the XP1, and it does allow me to use the 135/2.8 Sonnar on that body. Ergonomically it's okay and the results are fabulous Zeiss/Fuji color, but it's pretty impossible to use it in anything but a very deliberate slow way because of the focus.

I don't know how the OMD works, but it is supposed to have the best focus of any mirrorless, and I guess that applies to legacy lenses as well.

I can see why you'd be tempted by the MM. I'll bet a $2 bill that eventually an M9 will find its way to your Leica glass when prices come down as they certainly will. It's a really really nice camera if you like RFs.

Most of my long tele work des not require fast af, that is why I have been using my old rf lenses. I joined rff about the time I bought the gf1 when it first American out so I still have a lot of the lenses from that time I can use on the omd if imwantbto take a more complete kit out in the field.

Only a 2 dollar bill? I haven't seen one in a while now that u mention it.

Omd af is very good. Legacy glass is still manual focus, no focus peaking. I have the fn button at the top of the housing setup for mag mode. Here is the omd 90f2.8 post to m43 forum..

I am actually one of the few that got into Leica and other rf cameras more for the size but used rf because of failing eyesight acuity... Harder and harder to focus a film slr. Rf cameras w/ low contrast rf patches are getting to be very hard to focus. My saving grace w/ digital cameras is the 10x mag.

Can't wait for this lens to be launched. Bit annoyed it will have a 62mm filter thread though so if I bag up this, the 18-55 & the 35mm I'll need 52mm, 58mm AND 62mm thread size filters etc. Grrrrr
 
Haven't used it much... Lens is good enough for me. Still mainly using primes lately. The other day I was thinking about the old 25 to 50 (2x) zoom that Nikon used to have back in the film days. If I were to use a zoom full time on a camera body like xe1, 16-35 would be my choice.. Nice range and stubby as compared to the 18-55. If they could make it on stand f2.8 and small (about same size as 35f1.4), I would just glue it to a xe1 😛
