One of the statements that I found interesting, in the writeup about what the new chip does is that
"They added a new circuit for phase detection af and that it moved they work that was normally done for contrast af in sw to the new hw"
So they must use contrast to do fine tuning once the phase detection hw gets them setup... The CPU path now has more extra cycles to do other work. There was a thread that comment on someone from Fuji saying that focus peaking also needs the new sensor... Several of us on that thread thought this maybe due to the CPU horsepower requirements that maybe needed.. Anyway only time will tell if xp1/xe1 will be getting focusing peaking or if will only come w/ new xp1s/xp2/xe2 type of camera.
